What are the seven types of attention? They are, for example, individually and correctly recognizing characteristics. What are the key instructions? There are five key instructions: the key instruction of scripture, the key instruction of realization, the key instruction of order, the key instruction of non-inversion, and the key instruction of miracles. What are the qualities? They are immeasurability and liberation, etc., as taught in the chapter on places. What is enlightenment? There are three types of enlightenment: the enlightenment of the hearers, the enlightenment of the solitary realizer, and the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. What is the teaching? It is like this: those who take refuge, establishing the basis of training, establishing the teacher and the listener, establishing the lama and the disciple, the talk of generosity, the talk of ethics, the talk of higher realms, the faults of tasting the flavor of desires, all afflictions, purification, the benefits of manifesting and dwelling in extreme solitude, and the dharmas of the aspect of purification, which should be explained in detail. What is the summary of the meaning of the teaching? It is familiarity, such as: respecting virtuous dharmas, constantly practicing them, possessing meditation, and the dharmas to be familiarized with, such as: any virtuous dharma, and the dharmas with faults that should be fully understood, and the afflictive dharmas that should not be accepted and should be initially abandoned by suppression, and the dharmas that obstruct the ultimate realization, and the dharmas that are discordant and concordant, that is, those that are in accordance with the ultimate realization, and the dharmas that belong to suchness, which are focused on characteristics, that should be individually comprehended, and the dharmas that belong to special qualities, that should be increased, and the dharmas that should be in accordance with the world, that should be abandoned by individually relying on them, and the dharmas that arise universally after abandonment, and the ultimate dharmas, that is, the dharmas that verbally and openly declare the attainment of one's own benefit. What is the object of knowledge of the Buddha's teachings? There are three abodes of sentient beings: abiding like a single day, and abiding for as long as the lifespan.

Dwelling, and dwelling in virtuous dharmas in lifetime after lifetime. The first arises from the power of food. The second arises from the force of the life faculty's formation. The third arises from conscientiousness towards virtuous dharmas. There is also conscientiousness towards non-virtuous and unspecified dharmas, such as some being enthusiastic about killing living beings, and about conduct and crafts, etc. Conscientiousness towards virtuous dharmas enables accomplishment in this very life until nirvana, and also leads to going to a good rebirth in future lives, therefore it should be cherished. There are two dharmas that gather all elaborations starting from the sentient world and the container world: the dharma of grasping and its place, which is the dharma of what is grasped. The root of all afflictions of the world, which are harm and non-benefit, and what becomes the cause of affliction, are two: not understanding it itself, and wanting the previous harm. From this, the root of the afflictions of non-Buddhist ascetics and Brahmins are two: in terms of the view of the aggregates, thinking of the self as permanent, and thinking of it as annihilated. The root of suffering for sentient beings are two: delighting in and pursuing dharmas that are with defilements, and pursuing what should be rejected that is not produced by reason. There are two dharmas that are inconsistent in teaching the oral instructions of the teacher and the listener: the listener cannot tolerate the words, and the teacher views things perversely and enters wrongly. The white side that is the opposite of this should also be known as two dharmas. There are two dharmas that transcend the boundary of proper conduct of worldly and transworldly good conduct: from the perspective of the power of one's own dharma, not looking at bad results and not fearing wrongdoing, and not looking at others killing, binding, scolding, and slandering, and not fearing the wrongdoing of this life. The white side of the dharma that is the opposite of this should also be known as two dharmas. Without difficulty.
