Even though afflictions have ceased, there is no mastery over the characteristics of entering, abiding, and arising from meditative absorption, and there is no attainment of what is desired, harmless, and effortless, like those situations. Because of impurity, there is also a ground of non-equanimity. For example, even if one has attained what is desired, harmless, and effortless, the minds and mental factors of worldly meditative absorptions where the latent tendencies of afflictions have not been completely pacified are like that. Because of arising from meditative absorption, there is also a ground of non-equanimity. For example, it is like arising from the attainment of meditative absorption but not completely degenerating. Because of complete degeneration, there is also a ground of non-equanimity. For example, it is like completely degenerating from the attainment of meditative absorption. The ground of non-equanimity from the ground of the Yogacara practitioner is complete here. What are the grounds of having mind and not having mind? For these two aspects, it should be understood that there are five aspects: the establishment of ground, the establishment of mental confusion and non-confusion, the establishment of arising and non-arising, the establishment of state, and the establishment of ultimate truth. Among them, the establishment of ground is: the ground associated with the five consciousnesses, the ground of mind, the ground with investigation and analysis, and the ground with only analysis without investigation are definitely grounds with mind. From the ground without investigation and without analysis, except for meditative absorption, the existence of the unconscious being, and cessation meditative absorption, all others are grounds only with mind. Meditative absorption, the existence of the unconscious being, and cessation meditative absorption are grounds without mind. Among them, the establishment of mental confusion and non-confusion is: whatever mind is inverted by the four inversions is called confusion. Whatever is not inverted by the four inversions is called non-confusion. Among them, whatever mind is confused is called without mind because it is degenerated from its own nature. For example, in the world, when one sees someone who is mad and mentally confused,

Son, it is said that this person is mindless, mad, or mentally disturbed. Therefore, from that perspective, whatever is mentally disturbed is a mindless place; whatever is not disturbed is a mindful person. Regarding arising and not arising: There are eight conditions that cause the mind to arise or not arise, namely: the senses being completely impaired, the object not appearing, lack of attention, not obtained, disagreement, abandoned, ceased, and arisen. The opposite of these should be regarded as arising, and it changes only due to these causes. Therefore, the mind that arises from the causes of arising is a mindful place; the mind that does not arise from the causes of not arising is a mindless place. Regarding the distinction of states: Apart from the six states, it should be understood as a mindful place. What are the six states? Namely: the state of mindless sleep, the state of mindless fainting, the absorption without perception, the non-percipient being, the absorption of cessation, and the realm of nirvana without remainder of aggregates; these six states are mindless places. Regarding the ultimate distinction: the realm of nirvana without remainder of aggregates is a mindless place. Why? Because there, the alaya-vijñana ceases, therefore it is called a mindless place. Other than that, in other states, the entering consciousness ceases, but the alaya-vijñana does not cease, therefore, from the ultimate point of view, it is called a mindless place. The section on the mindful and mindless places from the "Yogacarabhumi" is complete. What is the place that arises from attainment? In short, the five sciences, namely names, phrases, and letters, first using wisdom, then listening, receiving, memorizing, reciting, recollecting, and relying on the collection of names, the collection of phrases, and the collection of letters to understand the meaning, this is called the place arising from hearing. What are the five sciences? Namely:

Namely, the science of inner meaning, the science of healing, the science of logic, the science of language, and the science of craftsmanship. What is the science of inner meaning? It should be viewed in four aspects: establishing the foundation, defining names in detail, summarizing the teachings, and the knowledge of the Buddha's teachings. What is establishing the foundation? The Buddha's teachings are summarized by three foundations, namely the foundation of the Sutras, the foundation of the Vinaya, and the foundation of the Abhidhamma. The detailed classification of these three arises from the summary of the foundation. What is defining names in detail? The verse says: Places, confusion, and proliferation, abiding, its own goodness and excellence, utmost peace, nature, intellect, expression, and direct perception. What are the places? For example, the six sense bases, limitless realms, limitless directions, limitless times, and the three realms, namely the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. There are also three realms, namely the small thousand worlds, the two thousand middle thousand worlds, and the three thousand great thousand worlds. The four directions, namely the direction of householders, the direction of renunciates, the direction of lay practitioners, and the direction of non-humans. Three kinds of feelings, namely pleasure, pain, and neither pain nor pleasure. Three times, namely past, future, and present. Three jewels, namely the Buddha jewel, the Dharma jewel, and the Sangha jewel. Three dharmas, namely good, non-good, and unspecified. Three kinds of pervasive defilements, namely the pervasive defilement of afflictions, the pervasive defilement of karma, and the pervasive defilement of birth. The four noble truths, namely suffering, origin, cessation, and path. The nine successive abidings of meditative absorption, namely from the first dhyana to the cessation of perception and feeling. The thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, namely the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four legs of magical power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, and the eight
