Now, have you become detached from desire? Have you not become detached from higher desire? With the intention of definitely emerging as a preliminary, the mind and mental phenomena cease. So, how does one enter into equipoise? Thinking that feeling is like a disease, feeling is like a boil, feeling is like a thorn. Having entered the fourth dhyana, cultivate the intention of not being biased towards feeling, and abide without being biased towards all feelings. Like this, thinking that the absence of feeling is peaceful, this is excellent, then focus the mind on the absence of feeling. In this way, gradually being separated from all objects of focus, therefore the mind ceases. Those born here can both enter and arise from equipoise. Those born there only enter into equipoise. Those beings, from the arising of feeling, abide there, and then die and transmigrate. What is the cessation of equipoise? Having become detached from the desire of the sphere of nothingness, with the intention of abiding as a preliminary, the mind and mental phenomena cease. So, how does one enter into equipoise? A noble one, having become detached from the desire of the sphere of nothingness, can enter into the signless samadhi of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, or can enter into the signless samadhi of cessation. For those who enter into the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, first make the mind even more tranquil, can enter into the signless samadhi of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, or can enter into the signless samadhi of cessation. For those who enter into the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, entering into samadhi is also the same as this. In the cessation of equipoise, two dharmas are cherished, namely, shamatha and vipashyana. What is shamatha? What is vipashyana? How are these two cherished? Shamatha refers to the eight samadhis of gradually abiding in this meaning. Vipashyana is the wisdom of the noble ones. Because one cannot enter into samadhi without one of these two, both must be gathered to be cherished. In the cessation of equipoise, formations

Then, how do these three (states) cease in order? Namely, examination and abiding, these two. Among them, when one is in the state of examination, there is also speech, because there are the activities of the first dhyana there. When one begins to abide, then, those (examination and speech) will cease in order, because that is the samadhi of abiding in the second dhyana and below in order. When arising from samadhi, one should also observe that the same inconsistencies arise. If the mind and mental factors that have entered into cessation samadhi have ceased, then, how will consciousness not separate from the body? Because for those whose faculties have not completely transformed into form, it is not that there is no alaya consciousness completely grasped by the seeds of entering consciousness, because later this is the nature of arising. When entering cessation samadhi, how does one not think, "I am entering cessation samadhi" or "I am arising from samadhi"? Because at the time of entering samadhi, there is no manifest activity, and the mind has ceased, and at the time of arising from samadhi, the mind has ceased beforehand. Then, how has he completely familiarized himself with that mind beforehand? Because he completely relies on and repeatedly practices the characteristics, signs, and marks of entering and arising from samadhi, and after cultivating them in this way, he will naturally be able to enter and arise from samadhi. When arising from cessation, how will one touch the three touches of immovability, nothingness, and signlessness? When arising from that samadhi, one will mostly arise with three objects: the object of existence, the object of object, and the object of cessation. When they arise with these (objects), they will touch the three touches only in order. Among them, when arising with the object of existence, one will not think, "The movement of the mind is me" or "It will change like this," starting from (not thinking of movement) and expanding, therefore it is called touching the immovable touch. When arising with the object of object, no desire will arise, no hatred will arise, and no delusion will arise, therefore it is called touching the touch of nothingness. Arising with the object of cessation,
