The habit of cultivating tranquility in the previous life moistens the mind, and relying on that habit, in this life, without great effort, the mind can be focused on one object, which is called the samadhi of the mind. Investigation refers to insight, which is to distinguish the characteristics of wisdom in the teachings taught by others, thereby eliminating doubts and focusing the mind on one object, which is called the samadhi of investigation. There are also six methods and realizations. There are four methods for accomplishing the four miraculous legs. Realization, that is, the result, has six types. First, generate joy. The first method is the method of generating joy, and the method of generating joy refers to diligence. Second, the nature of benefit. The second method is the nature of accomplishing benefit, which is to purify body and mind. Third, abide. The third method is to abide, which is to focus the mind on samadhi. Fourth, it itself is the antidote. The fourth method is the characteristic of the antidote, which is to abandon afflictions and near afflictions. There are eight kinds of volitions of abandonment, etc. For the obstacles of the miraculous legs, there are eight kinds of volitions of abandonment that become the antidote to abandoning unfavorable factors. That is, desire, faith, diligence, pliancy, mindfulness, awareness, thought, and equanimity. Among them, desire, diligence, and faith are called the methods of generating joy. Why are these three called the methods of generating joy? Because if there is faith, there will be desire and diligence. As it is said in the sutras, having faith that nirvana can be attained, and having faith that the noble path can be practiced, this is faith. If there is such faith, the desire to attain nirvana and practice the path will arise. Therefore, the cause of desire is faith. Therefore, it is also said in other scriptures and treatises that faith is the basis of desire and the function of giving.

Faith is that if transformed, one can attain Nirvana. In order to cultivate the path, one should initiate diligence. Thus, the continuity of diligence is faith. Therefore, in other treatises as well, it is said that faith is the action of bestowing a place for diligence. Therefore, these three are established as methods of joy. Extreme pliancy is benefiting, and what is called extreme pliancy refers to the body and mind being serviceable. This is a method of benefiting. Why? Because a serviceable body benefits the body, making it radiant, or increasing it. A serviceable mind benefits the mind, allowing it to quickly enter the state of Samadhi, and preventing it from being overcome by sleep and drowsiness, etc. Mindfulness and awareness are the means of settling. Mindfulness refers to Samadhi, and awareness refers to wisdom. These two are called the means of settling. Why are these two called the means of settling? Because, firstly, the mind does not wander from its object; and secondly, it fully knows wandering. The first refers to the nature of mindfulness in Shamatha, which gathers the mind from wandering into objects such as forms, and settles it single-pointedly, thus it is called the means of settling. The second is the nature of awareness and wisdom, which, when the mind wanders into an object, knows the wandering and quickly returns, thus it is the means of settling. Application of mind and equanimity are the means of counteracting. Application of mind and equanimity are called the means of counteracting. Why? Because application of mind counteracts the two near afflictions of sinking and excitement. Equanimity counteracts afflictions such as attachment and hatred. When the mind sinks, application of mind remembers the qualities of the Tathagata, etc., and uplifts the mind, eliminating sinking. When the mind is excited, remember the faults of Samsara, etc., to pacify the mind, for virtue.

Because it enables entry, the mind is the antidote to the two near afflictions. Equanimity is also the antidote to afflictions such as desire. How so? Because equanimity is incompatible with the arising of afflictive dharmas. Therefore, as long as one abides in equanimity, afflictions will not arise in the mind at all. Observation, recollection, desire, etc., the four legs of magical power, manifestly accomplish six fruits. What are the six? They are the six manifest accomplishments: manifest accomplishment of observation, manifest accomplishment of recollection. Manifest accomplishment of dwelling and exertion, manifest accomplishment of aspiration. Manifest accomplishment of mastery, manifest accomplishment of obtaining dharma. Among these, observation is the five eyes, called observation of the five eyes. The five eyes are the physical eye, etc. Among these, the physical eye is such that bodhisattvas, through the power of cultivating the legs of magical power, cause this kind of eye to mature, enabling them to see all the large and small forms that exist in the three thousand great thousand world realms. The magical eye is accomplished through cultivating the first and second dhyanas, etc. It is superior to the physical eye, enabling one to see all the large and small forms of the ten directions and three times. The noble eye of wisdom is non-conceptual wisdom. The Dharma eye is the unobstructed knowledge of all the dharmas of the twelve divisions of scripture, such as the sutra pitaka and the avadana pitaka. The Buddha eye is the complete realization of all dharmas, including those with and without outflows, conditioned and unconditioned, etc. Alternatively, the physical eye can unobstructed see all the large and small forms of beings in the present time in the endless worlds of the ten directions. Therefore, it is also said in the sutra: "With his physical eye, he sees one yojana, he sees within one hundred yojanas, he sees the entire Jambudvipa, he sees the entire exceedingly vast three thousand great thousand world realms." Among these, the magical eye
