such as flying in the sky. The cause for attaining it, namely the four, desire and so on, are called the feet of magical power. Foot means cause. Or, just as a person with feet can reach the place where he wants to go, similarly, one who has the four qualities of desire and so on, can attain the transcendental Dharma, hence it is called the feet of magical power. The classification of the feet of magical power is also explained by five verses. The four feet of magical power are: The characteristic of the steadfast is supreme. This means that the reliance on the four feet of magical power of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, the characteristics of the feet of magical power of the Bodhisattvas' desire, diligence, mind, and conduct are supreme. It means that they are distinguished by these. How are they supreme? Therefore it is said: One's own and others', all benefits will be accomplished. This means that the practitioners of the Hearer and Solitary Buddha grounds practice the feet of magical power in order to accomplish their own benefit; Bodhisattvas practice the feet of magical power in order to accomplish all the benefits of themselves and others. Therefore, it is more supreme than the Hearers and so on. All benefits refer to worldly benefits and transcendental benefits. Worldly benefits refer to obtaining the wealth of Indra and Brahma and so on. Transcendental benefits refer to obtaining the three kinds of enlightenment. Basis and various distinctions, as well as means and direct realization, the wise desire to establish all the feet of magical power, in this way, separately. This means that the wise Bodhisattvas' desire, diligence, mind, and discernment of the feet of magical power, all are separately established in four ways, wanting to be like four ways, the four ways are basis, various distinctions, means, and direct realization. This verse briefly explains the meaning of the separate establishment of the feet of magical power, and the remaining verses explain its meaning in detail. Dhyana Paramita

Being in... Called... This indicates the basis. The place and basis of the four legs of magical power are the first dhyana, the second dhyana, the third dhyana, and the fourth dhyana of the form realm. Therefore, it is said to be in the perfection of meditation. Therefore, in the Sutra of the Noble Inexhaustible Intellect, it is also said: Furthermore, son of Sharadvati, monk, the four inexhaustible legs of magical power of the Bodhisattva are: What are the four? They are: aspiration, diligence, mind, and investigation. The root basis and place of these are the four immeasurables of love, compassion, joy, equanimity. Therefore, by attending to, meditating on, and increasing these four immeasurables, one will attain mental pliancy. Having attained mental pliancy, one will equally place the mind in the first dhyana. Similarly, one will equally place the mind in the second dhyana, the third dhyana, and the fourth dhyana, and so forth. Having attained dhyana, one will attain lightness of body and mind. Possessing lightness of body and mind, one will be able to thoroughly accomplish entering into supernormal knowledge, and so forth. Called the fourfold distinction. If the legs of magical power are distinguished, there are four types: the samadhi of aspiration, the samadhi of diligence, the samadhi of mind, and the samadhi of investigation. Among these, based on generating aspiration and faith in the emptiness and selflessness of all phenomena, generating joy and respect, and initiating diligence, the mind becomes one-pointed, which is called the samadhi of aspiration. Alternatively, in order to not generate unwholesome and unwholesome dharmas that have not yet arisen, to abandon unwholesome and unwholesome dharmas that have already arisen, to generate wholesome dharmas that have not yet arisen, and to increase wholesome dharmas that have already arisen, generating desire and aspiration, and respectfully initiating diligence, the mind becomes one-pointed, which is called the samadhi of aspiration. Alternatively, in order to not generate unwholesome and unwholesome dharmas that have not yet arisen, to abandon unwholesome and unwholesome dharmas that have already arisen, to generate wholesome dharmas that have not yet arisen, and to increase wholesome dharmas that have already arisen, constantly and continuously applying diligence, and constantly initiating diligence, the mind becomes one-pointed, which is called the samadhi of diligence. Mind refers to abiding in peace.
