The so-called "things" and "objects" have the same meaning, that is to say, there are five kinds of objects that can be understood through academic knowledge. Those who are proficient in the teachings of the Tathagata are called Inner Science. Those who are proficient in reasoning are called Logic. Those who are proficient in grammar are called Grammar. Those who are proficient in medical science and other academics are called Medicine. Those who are proficient in Bharata and other academics, and are good at singing, dancing, and weapons are called Craftsmanship. The so-called doing for oneself and for others, the Bodhisattvas are proficient in the five sciences, not only for their own sake, but for the benefit of themselves and others, so they are more superior in terms of benefit. The so-called "in the first thing, one understands oneself, and also teaches others in the same way", this is to explain the function of the five sciences. Among them, the first is the function of science, one also understands oneself, what should be abandoned, what should be attained, what should be cultivated, through understanding things, one can abandon afflictions, and also teach others to understand, what should be abandoned, what should be attained, what should be cultivated, engaging in two kinds of activities. Among them, suffering is to be understood, accumulation is to be abandoned, cessation is to be attained, and the path is to be cultivated. The so-called "through the second, one fully understands the faults and can subdue the opponents", the second refers to Logic, through Logic, for those who claim to have self, permanence, etc., claiming that direct perception and inference are established valid means of cognition, one can perceive the faults of not becoming valid means of cognition, and can use direct perception and inference and other valid means of cognition to subdue other opponents who refute the Buddha's Dharma, and can refute the heretical doctrines that claim to have self, engaging in two kinds of activities. The so-called "third, one can also speak correct words oneself, and also make others understand", the third refers to Grammar, through Grammar, when one is explaining the Dharma, one can also be fluent and unimpeded.

In short, regarding the term "form," it is called "feeling" because it is the nature of experience. To expound the Dharma with beautiful language, and without any errors in speech, if one teaches the Dharma to others, they will quickly understand its meaning. Through this, people will believe that this person is a wise one, thus generating trust. This performs two functions. The fourth is to pacify the illnesses of others, which means being skilled in medicine. Therefore, Bodhisattvas, by knowing the illnesses of sentient beings, the root of illness, the state of being without illness, and the methods for being without illness, pacify the inner suffering of sentient beings. This performs one function. The fifth is to show to others, which means knowing the skills of the place of crafts. Therefore, one benefits sentient beings through various kinds of crafts and shows the place of crafts to those who wish to know it. This performs one function. The characteristic of being learned is to hear these five things, and so on. To hear the five sciences, to retain them in memory, to familiarize oneself with them through words, to comprehend them with the mind, and to understand them thoroughly with wisdom. If one acts according to these five methods, one can establish the characteristic of being learned. To explain the meaning of these five words, it is said, "Having heard, thus retain in memory," and so on. Connect the previous five words and the following five words that explain their meaning in order. The meaning of "hearing" is explained by the word "hear," which means that first hearing the five sciences from a virtuous friend is called hearing. After hearing, not forgetting the meaning and words of the Dharma that has been heard, and keeping it in mind, is called retaining in memory. The meaning of familiarizing oneself with words is indicated by "reciting," which means that reciting the five sciences is called familiarizing oneself with words. The meaning of comprehending with the mind is explained as retaining in memory with faith, and faith refers to a clear or sharp mind. Knowing what the meaning of the five sciences is through a clear mind is called comprehending with the mind. The meaning of understanding thoroughly with wisdom is the merit and fault of speaking good and bad words.
