If one practices the vast vehicle, one will feel ashamed and embarrassed because of it, that is its meaning. Regarding shame itself, placing other beings in it, this is to explain the meaning of fully maturing beings. The object of shame for a Bodhisattva is the vehicle of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, placing beings in it is called fully maturing beings. Or, not placing beings in the place of shame, that is, the vehicle of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, but placing beings in the Great Vehicle, that is fully maturing beings. When the opposites of the six perfections increase, and their antidotes decrease, Bodhisattvas will generate unbearable shame. This shows the shame for increase and decrease. The opposing aspects of the perfections, that is, from stinginess to wrong wisdom, when these increase and become vast, Bodhisattvas will feel great shame, this is the shame for increase. The antidotes to stinginess etc., that is, the six perfections from generosity to wisdom, when these decrease and deteriorate, Bodhisattvas will feel very ashamed, this is the shame for decrease. For the sake of practicing the six perfections, due to laziness and actions in accordance with afflictions, the steadfast ones will feel ashamed. This shows the shame for practice and non-practice. To practice the six perfections is to meditate on the six perfections, how to meditate on the six perfections? Just as it is said in the chapter on distinguishing the meditation on the six perfections. Like this, when practicing and becoming accustomed to the perfections, if one is controlled by laziness and does not practice, then the steadfast Bodhisattvas will feel ashamed, this is the shame for non-practice. If one practices the Dharma that arises and accords with afflictions such as desire and hatred, that is, from the eye faculty to the mind faculty, not guarding the doors of the faculties, and entering the realm of the five desires, then the Bodhisattvas will...

The shame of the ground, this is the shame of union. The nature of non-absorption, the first ground and the middle two, evil thoughts and those with ego, the small and the other, surpass that. This is said to show the nature of small shame and the nature of great shame. All the shame and embarrassment of beings in the desire realm of the non-absorbed ground are placed in the small. Looking at the higher and higher grounds, the shame and embarrassment of the lower and lower grounds are also placed in the small. Looking at the first ground, the shame and embarrassment of beings in the ground who practice with faith are placed in the small. Likewise, looking at the second time, the shame and embarrassment of the first ground are all placed in the small, and likewise, it can also be applied to the upper grounds. In the form and formless realms, there are also three kinds of shame and embarrassment in the absorbed ground: small, medium, and large. The small and medium are also placed in the small. Like Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, the shame and embarrassment that exists in the continuum of evil thoughts is also placed in the small, because their shame and embarrassment only accomplish their own benefit. From the first ground to the seventh ground and below, the shame and embarrassment with ego are also placed in the small. Those with ego mean having diligence. The meaning of "other" means the opposite of the former. Surpassing that means becoming great if it is the opposite of the former. How does it become great? All beings in the non-absorbed ground are included in the small, and all beings in the absorbed ground become great. All lower grounds are placed in the small, and all upper grounds become great. Beings in the absorbed ground, the small and medium are placed in the small, and the shame and embarrassment of beings in the absorbed ground become great. The shame and embarrassment of evil thoughts are placed in the small, and the shame and embarrassment of great-minded Bodhisattvas and Buddhas become great. Those with ego below the seventh ground are placed in the small, and those above the eighth ground obtain tolerance of the unborn Dharma, and shame and embarrassment are effortlessly spontaneous.
