That is, what are the first three pāramitās? They are generosity, discipline, and patience. The two called "the latter two" are higher mind training and higher wisdom training, and these two are shown by the latter two pāramitās. The latter two pāramitās are the dhyāna pāramitā and the prajñā pāramitā. Among them, the dhyāna pāramitā is called higher mind training, because dhyāna causes the mind to be associated with abiding in proximity, etc. The prajñā pāramitā is called higher wisdom training. Among them, higher discipline training refers to the first three pāramitās, meaning that generosity, discipline, and patience all belong to higher discipline training. Someone says, discipline can be called higher discipline training, so how are generosity and patience included in higher discipline training? Therefore, it is for the sake of taking what is related to the collection and what is related to the retinue. It is for the sake of taking what is related to the collection of discipline and what is related to the retinue of discipline. Generosity and patience also especially belong to discipline. Among them, collection refers to cause and basis, and the basis and cause of discipline is the generosity pāramitā. The retinue and friend of discipline is the patience pāramitā. How does generosity become the cause of discipline? Therefore, it is said that generosity does not look to enjoyment and truly takes discipline, and if one abides in generosity, one does not look to or cling to enjoyments such as children, wealth, etc. If one does not cling to enjoyment, one will take discipline, therefore it becomes the cause and collection of discipline. How does patience become a retinue? Therefore, it is said that for those who have truly taken it, patience does not retort to scolding, etc. For those who have truly taken discipline, because there is patience, in the way that one does not retort to scolding, one does not retort to beating, etc., patience protects discipline, so
