Explaining without reversing the truth, thereby dispelling the doubts of sentient beings. Thus, accomplishing the benefit of others through the six perfections is the very self-benefit of the Bodhisattva. Why is that? Because by accomplishing the benefit of others in this way, one obtains the unsurpassed Bodhi. Thus, in terms of the completeness of both self and other benefit, it is said that it is precisely the six perfections, meaning to combine them without excess or deficiency. Not delighting in enjoyments. The four-line verse, and so on, in terms of encompassing all the practices of the Mahayana Bodhisattva, it is said that it is precisely the six perfections, meaning neither more nor less. Here, the term enjoyments refers to the qualities of the five desires, such as form. Among them, not delighting in enjoyments is the perfection of generosity. Why is that? Abiding in generosity, not looking to enjoyments, and having no attachment that cannot be relinquished to any internal or external object. Extremely valuing, refers to what the Bodhisattva values, which is the perfection of discipline. Why is that? Because one takes vows of discipline correctly, and for the Bodhisattva's training, one is cautious and protects against even the slightest fault. Not weary of two, the two refers to sentient and non-sentient beings. Not being weary of these two is the perfection of patience and the perfection of diligence. Among them, the perfection of patience is not being weary of sentient beings, even if bees, horseflies, and people cause harm, those who abide in patience will not cause harm in return, and will not abandon sentient beings. Not being weary of non-sentient beings is the perfection of diligence, when engaging in listening and thinking, etc., with diligence, even if external sufferings such as wind, heat, rain, cold, and hunger arise, one will not abandon diligence in virtue. Alternatively, the two refers to the accumulation of wisdom and the accumulation of merit, not being weary of them is the perfection of patience and diligence.

To the extent of, with patience, one does not tire of the accumulation of wisdom. How so? Of the three types of patience—patience in enduring harm, patience in not minding suffering, and patience in truly understanding the Dharma—it is the patience in truly understanding the Dharma that allows one to endure all things as impermanent, suffering, empty, and selfless. Therefore, with patience, one does not tire of the accumulation of wisdom. With diligence, one does not tire of the accumulation of merit, because when accumulating merit such as generosity and discipline, one does not abandon diligence. The non-conceptual yoga, as it is called, is accomplished through the final meditation and the perfection of wisdom, which achieve the samadhi of non-conceptuality. Why is this so? Because these two cultivate meditation that combines calm abiding and insight. Here, meditation is calm abiding, and wisdom is insight. This is called the unsurpassed vehicle, which refers to the Great Vehicle. One does not tire of it through disliking enjoyment and prioritizing learning, and one is a yogi of non-conceptuality. The meaning of the Great Vehicle is only this much; there is no more to it. With patience and diligence, one endures the suffering caused by sentient beings, such as people and bees, and by non-sentient beings, such as heat, cold, and wind. With diligence, one does not tire of listening, contemplating, and other virtuous activities, because diligence ensures that one does not abandon the work of engaging with virtue. "The path is non-attachment to objects," and so forth. The fifth verse explains that all paths are summarized into the six perfections, no more and no less. Here, the term "objects" refers to the qualities of the five desires. The path of non-attachment to these is the perfection of generosity. How so? By abiding in generosity, one becomes accustomed to constantly giving away inner and outer possessions, thereby abandoning all objects and not becoming attached to them.

For the path of non-attachment will become so. Obtaining that, others will pacify distraction. In this phrase, "others" refers to the perfection of discipline. Obtaining that, the path that pacifies distraction is the perfection of discipline. In that, "that" refers to the qualities of the five desires. Distraction refers to engaging in many activities in order to obtain the qualities of the five desires. Discipline prevents it, because in order to obtain the qualities of the five desires, one does not engage in many activities that are distracted by worldly affairs. In the phrase "not abandoning sentient beings," the path of not abandoning sentient beings is the perfection of patience. Because by abiding in patience, even if sentient beings strike, bind, or cause harm and generate suffering, one does not abandon sentient beings and is not discouraged by suffering. In the phrase "increase," the path of increasing virtue is the perfection of diligence. Because by abiding in diligence, virtuous qualities increase like a river, without interruption. In the phrase "purifying obscurations is other," "other" refers to the perfections of meditation and wisdom. The path of purifying obscurations is both meditation and wisdom. How is it purified? Meditation purifies the obscurations of afflictions. Wisdom purifies the obscurations of knowledge. Or, meditation and wisdom destroy the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge. Wisdom uproots the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge. The word "path" refers to means. From "the means of not being attached to objects" to "the means of purifying obscurations" should be connected. Through the power of the three trainings, the Victorious One proclaimed the six perfections. The meaning of this verse is that through the power of the training in higher discipline, the training in higher mind, and the training in higher wisdom, the Victorious Buddha Bhagavan proclaimed the six perfections, neither more nor less. In the phrase "the first three," the first three perfections are the training in higher discipline.
