Giving without causing such harm is called faultless. The place of purity is for giving things that have been examined. Etc. One does not give things that have not been examined, such as poison and weapons, but gives pure things. One does not give things like poison, weapons, and alcohol, so it is called giving the place of purity. Benefiting means guarding completely with generosity and joining with virtue. Etc. Protecting sentient beings with generosity, and causing them to do good in order to obtain the fruits of gods and humans in future lives, is called the generosity of benefiting. Having protection means giving to others without harming the livelihood of one's retinue. Giving with protection means that when giving, one does not give everything away so that there is nothing left, and one does not give in a way that harms one's retinue, such as one's children and servants, but even afterwards, one leaves a little so as not to harm one's retinue. Alternatively, giving with protection means that when a Bodhisattva gives away his children, servants, etc., he does not give them to those who harm sentient beings, such as yakshas and rakshasas. Not seeking means understanding the state of poverty and giving without being asked, and not completely seeking a place to give. Giving without seeking means understanding the situation of sentient beings in poverty and busyness, and giving even when not asked by others. One does not seek a field of merit, saying, "Give to this one, do not give to that one," but gives equally to all sentient beings. Non-attachment means not expecting reward and ripening. Giving without attachment means that after giving, one does not expect it to repay oneself, and one has no attachment to repayment. After giving, one does not expect to have mature enjoyment in future lives, and one gives without attachment to ripening, so it is called giving without attachment. In another way, after the Bodhisattva has spoken of one way of giving with compassion, there are also benefits in this life and future lives.

This is also to explain the other kinds of giving that are transformed by compassion. "All, increase, and chief" means: combined with all giving, increasing giving, and chief giving. Therefore, since both inner and outer are given, it is all giving. It is not giving small and few things, but giving large and many things, so it is called increasing giving. It is not giving damaged, rotten, and unusable things, but giving things with perfect and beautiful color, shape, and smell, so it is called chief giving. "Constant, joyful, and without impurity" means: combined with constant giving, joyful giving, and giving without impurity. Therefore, it is not giving only for a moment, not not giving for a moment, not giving only for a day, not not giving for a day, not giving only for a few years, not not giving for a few years, but giving continuously, so it is called constant giving. Without a stingy mind, with a joyful and satisfied mind, not distinguishing "giving this, not giving that," but giving equally to all, so it is called joyful giving. Not expecting rewards in this life, nor expecting maturation in future lives, so it is called giving without impurity. "Pure, dedicating to Bodhi, and dedicating to virtue" means: combined with pure giving, dedicating to Bodhi giving, and dedicating to virtue giving. Therefore, pure giving has the same meaning as the pure place giving mentioned earlier, that is, not giving poison, weapons, and alcohol, etc., which are considered bad things, so it is called pure giving. It is not dedicating the giving done to the Nirvana of worldly gods, humans, or Shravakas, but dedicating it to obtaining unsurpassed Bodhi, so it is called dedicating to Bodhi giving. The meaning of dedicating to virtue is the same as the benefit giving mentioned earlier, that is, taking hold with giving and placing it in virtue, this is called dedicating to virtue giving. The verses called the differences of enjoyment refer to worldly people who, after giving, will enjoy various enjoyments, while noble Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas who have given
