Because of understanding that everything is emptiness, even though experiencing suffering for the benefit of sentient beings, a mind of great joy and happiness arises. This is for the sake of the power of the compassion of a Bodhisattva. Next, the meaning of "no suffering" is explained. "No" refers to the meaning of characteristics. The meaning of characteristics also leads to the meaning of "for the sake of," that is, entering in order to eliminate the seven or eight kinds of sufferings of sentient beings. After seeing the suffering of sentient beings, by the power of the compassion of a Bodhisattva, suffering will arise in oneself, but a Bodhisattva in the stage of aspiring conduct will not be afraid of that suffering. Regarding "self and others are equal," etc., the reason why a Bodhisattva in the stage of aspiring conduct is afraid of suffering is because they have not realized the equality of self and others, and they have not realized that all suffering is emptiness. Touch refers to being in the ground of superior pure intention. Touch refers to touching the ground of superior pure intention, that is, obtaining the first ground and above. At those times, because of realizing the nature of the all-pervading Dharmadhatu, one obtains the mind of equality between self and others, and because of realizing that all suffering is emptiness, fear of suffering does not arise, but a thought of holding onto happiness arises. Regarding the verse "The suffering of compassion overcomes happiness," the various sufferings that arise for Bodhisattvas for the benefit of sentient beings arise from the cause of compassion. Bodhisattvas hold onto suffering itself as happiness. The happiness that arises from suffering is the most supreme and excellent of all happiness. In order to show that it overcomes all worldly happiness and transcends all worldly happiness, a verse is composed. "The suffering born of compassion overcomes all worldly happiness." In order to protect those sentient beings who are afflicted by various sufferings such as birth and old age, the suffering that arises from the cause of compassion for a Bodhisattva is sentient beings.

Even experiencing the suffering of hells, in relation to saving sentient beings from suffering, Bodhisattvas transform that into great happiness. Because that happiness is the most supreme and excellent of all happinesses, that happiness overwhelms all the happinesses of gods and humans in the world, surpassing all happinesses, that is its meaning. To show that the suffering of a Bodhisattva itself is the ultimate of happiness, because the deeds done are also separate from it, therefore, what could be more amazing than that? This statement was made. Like this, the noble Arhats have abandoned all suffering and perfected all happiness, accomplishing their own benefit in every way, but even for them, if there is no such happiness where the suffering arising from the compassion of the Bodhisattva is transformed into happiness, then how could ordinary worldly people have it? Therefore, what is more amazing than that suffering itself is transformed into supreme happiness? It should be regarded as the most amazing, that is its meaning. In the verse praising the giving done with compassion, it says that although there are people in the world who give, some give in the hope of repaying kindness, and some give in order to repay previous kindness, but the Bodhisattva does not give in that way, but gives with the power of compassion. To show that such giving has merit and benefit, therefore, the verse is composed, that is its meaning. Giving with compassion, for those who are taught, giving brings happiness. The enjoyments within the three realms, for that happiness, even a fraction of it cannot compare. It means that Bodhisattvas give because they pity the busyness of sentient beings.

The meaning of the half verse called "Making Attention" is not explained because its meaning is simple. The meaning of the half verse up to "The enjoyments of the three realms," is explained by interpretation, that is the meaning. Regarding the verse on accepting suffering with compassion, some think that although Bodhisattvas vow to samsara for the benefit of sentient beings, they also take on the suffering of samsara. To show that Bodhisattvas, by vowing to samsara, also take on the suffering of samsara, therefore, the verse is composed, that is the meaning. Samsara is by nature suffering, for the sake of sentient beings, why not abandon compassion? For the benefit of others, is not suffering taken on by the compassionate? Regarding this, the Blessed One said in the sutras: birth is suffering, old age, sickness, and death are suffering, all desires are suffering, meeting with the unpleasant is suffering, separation from the pleasant is suffering, in short, the five aggregates of grasping are suffering. Thus, samsara is also said to be the nature of suffering. All suffering is also not included in samsara, therefore, Bodhisattvas, for the benefit of sentient beings, by the power of compassion, have not completely abandoned samsara, if they vow to samsara, in order to benefit other sentient beings, is there anything that the compassionate have not taken on of all the suffering of samsara? All suffering has been taken on, that is the meaning. The verse on its fruit and the increase of three, in order to show that compassionate Bodhisattvas increase three dharmas and the fruit of three dharmas, therefore, the verse is composed, that is the meaning. Compassion and generosity and enjoyment, etc., are always increased by the compassionate. Regarding this, the Bodhisattvas of compassion always increase three kinds of dharmas, the three dharmas are the increase of compassion, the increase of generosity, and the increase of enjoyment. Loving-kindness is the generation of benefit, and the happiness created by it also comes from it. Regarding this, the three fruits
