Where bodhisattvas, alas! These sentient beings are constantly reborn only in samsara, and there is no opportunity for them to be liberated from suffering at any time. (The bodhisattva) generates great compassion! "Those who possess great bondage" refers to those non-Buddhists who seek liberation with various views based on the distinction between self and what belongs to self. These are called those who are bound by strong bondage. For them, bodhisattvas, alas! These sentient beings are bound by the strong bondage of the view of self and what belongs to self! (The bodhisattva) generates great compassion! "Excellent food mixed with poison" refers to those who are attached to the taste of samadhi in the form and formless realms, like eating inferior food mixed with poison. For example, when eating delicious food mixed with poison, one feels happy at the moment, but dies after eating it. Similarly, those who are attached to the taste of meditation and samadhi may feel happy and satisfied for a while, but later, due to the power of attachment and clinging to, they will fall away and degenerate from meditation, and therefore are called afflictions. For them, bodhisattvas, alas! These sentient beings manifest attachment to things that are not attachment! (The bodhisattva) generates great compassion! "Those who have completely lost the path" refers to those non-Buddhists who jump off cliffs or perform the austerity of five fires, etc., and who are arrogant towards what is not the path to liberation, but appear to be the path to liberation. These are called those who have lost the path. For them, bodhisattvas, alas! These sentient beings arrogantly believe that what is not the path is the path! (The bodhisattva) generates great compassion! "Those who have entered the wrong path" refers to those whose Shravaka lineage is uncertain, and those whose Bodhisattva lineage is uncertain who enter the Shravaka vehicle. For them, bodhisattvas, alas! These sentient beings have abandoned the Great Vehicle path that leads to the benefit of themselves and others, and have entered the path that leads only to their own liberation! (The bodhisattva) generates great compassion! "The weak" refers to bodhisattvas who abide in the stage of faith and practice, and who are unable to quickly perfect the accumulation of merit and wisdom because they are oppressed by the power of afflictions, are called the weak.

That is, for those Bodhisattvas, ah! These sentient beings are those whose power of the accumulation of merit and wisdom is weak, and the Bodhisattva generates great compassion. In the verse called "The Five Fruits of the Object of Compassion," starting from showing the object of compassion, in order to show what fruit will be obtained if compassion is directed towards sentient beings, this verse is composed, and five kinds of fruits will also be obtained. This is its meaning. The so-called "abandoning harm" means that those who have compassion do not harm sentient beings by beating and hurting them, so it is called abandoning harm, which shows the fruit of separation. The so-called "seed of supreme Bodhi" means that due to the power of compassion, it will become the cause of attaining unsurpassed Bodhi, that is, the accumulation of merit and wisdom, etc. This is the fruit of power. The so-called "obtaining ease, ascetic," means that those who have compassion liberate other sentient beings from suffering and place them in ease, and for the benefit of sentient beings, they themselves will experience various ascetic practices of suffering such as cold, heat, hunger, and thirst, which shows the fruit of what a man does. The so-called "cause of desire" means that those who have compassion will be born wherever they wish to be born, and this is the fruit of maturation. The so-called "abandoning nature" means that those who have compassion, because they are accustomed to compassion, will also have the distinction of compassion in this life, and in other lives, the nature of compassion will always arise in their minds, so it is called abandoning nature, which is the fruit that is the same as the cause. The so-called "the Bodhi of the son of the Victorious One who abides in the Dharma is not far away" means that the place of compassion is called abiding in the Dharma, and the Bodhisattvas who abide in the Dharma in this way are not far from attaining unsurpassed Bodhi, that is, they will quickly obtain it. The so-called "verse that does not abide in Samsara and Nirvana" means that starting from showing the object and fruit of compassion, the Bodhisattvas who have compassion are like ordinary people respectively.
