The Nirvana of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, which is characterized by abandoning everything, can also be attained through diligence, which is the meaning of the statement. Diligence can realize supreme enlightenment. This means that the characteristics of complete abandonment and complete wisdom, as well as the supreme enlightenment, can be realized through diligence. Because it is not completely certain, it means that the meditations and absorptions of the form and formless realms will disappear after death, so they are impermanent and uncertain, and therefore subject to change. Diligence decreases and increases, etc., showing the various differences of diligence. The aspects of diligence are diligence with the four right abandonments, diligence with the five faculties, diligence with the five powers, diligence with the seven branches of enlightenment, and diligence with the eightfold path, and so on. Among them, diligence with the four right abandonments is called decreasing and increasing diligence. Why? Because this diligence prevents unwholesome and evil dharmas that have not yet arisen from arising, and abandons those that have already arisen, so it is called decreasing. It causes wholesome dharmas that have not yet arisen to arise, and makes those that have already arisen to increase, so it is called increasing. The freedom of liberation, etc., diligence with the five faculties is the diligence that has freedom over liberation, because it has freedom over the roots of virtue that will lead to the attainment of Nirvana. Abandoning unfavorable factors, etc., diligence with the five powers is the diligence that abandons unfavorable factors. Why? Because this diligence can subdue and abandon disbelief, laziness, loss of mindfulness, distraction, and perverse wisdom. Entering into that itself, etc., diligence with the branches of enlightenment is called diligence that enters into that itself. The seven branches of the mind of enlightenment are the path of seeing that arises after obtaining the first ground.

, and at the time of the path of seeing, one should meditate on the seven branches of enlightenment. The so-called "transformation" refers to the diligence that possesses the eight branches of the noble path, which is called the diligence of transformation. Why? Because the statement "That is the true power, said to be following accordingly" explains the nature of the four means of gathering. Among the four means of gathering, the means of gathering through generosity is the same and similar in meaning to the nature of the generosity pāramitā as explained in the context of the six pāramitās, so it is not explained here. Next, the nature of the three, namely, pleasing speech, beneficial conduct, and acting in accordance, will be explained: from generosity to wisdom, the six pāramitās, logically explaining their own and common characteristics to others, this is the nature of pleasing speech. Encouraging sentient beings to practice the six pāramitās, placing sentient beings in the six pāramitās, and causing sentient beings to practice the six pāramitās, this is the nature of beneficial conduct. For the pāramitā in which sentient beings are placed and caused to practice, one also follows accordingly and practices it oneself, this is the nature of acting in accordance. The nature of the four means of gathering is explained in this way. The so-called "gathered by the pāramitās" means that because it is the occasion for explaining the pāramitās, showing others the dharma related to the pāramitās is the meaning of pleasing speech. The so-called "Why are the four means of gathering explained as four?" refers to, after explaining the nature of the four means of gathering, questioning why the number of the four means of gathering is fixed. Neither are five means of gathering, etc., explained as more, nor are three means of gathering, etc., explained as fewer, why is it only determined as four? This is its meaning. "Those are the means of others, benefit and holding, causing to enter and thus following accordingly, should be known as the means of gathering" means that, in this way, the means of gathering are for guiding sentient beings who have not yet entered the teachings to enter the teachings, and for causing sentient beings who have already entered the teachings to mature.

The means to liberate those who have been ripened, and there are four kinds of means for that. What are the four? The means of benefiting, the means of holding, the means of entering, and the means of following. Thus, having four means, the object of collection is also only four, meaning neither more nor less. Among them, the means of benefiting is giving. By giving food, clothing, and so on, to eliminate the hunger and cold of sentient beings, one benefits the bodies of sentient beings. The means of holding is loving speech. The meaning of holding and entering are the same. Thus, by speaking lovingly, explaining the self and common characteristics of the perfections, one gathers those who do not understand the nature of the perfections, those who misunderstand, and those who are doubtful, and makes the nature of the perfections not inverted, so it is the means of holding. The means of entering is meaningful conduct. For those who do not understand the perfections and those who are doubtful, eliminating their ignorance and doubt, and for those who understand the meaning of the perfections, one also places them in the practice of the perfections, causing them to practice the perfections, so it is the means of entering. The means of following is the same meaning. In order not to regress from the root of virtue in which the mind is placed, and to constantly cause practice. One also practices that very perfection. Thus, after practicing oneself, those who cause sentient beings to practice the perfections, think thus: In whatever perfection of virtue we are placed, the Bodhisattva himself also practices in that, so this action is excellent. Thus, sentient beings earnestly practice the perfections. Knowing that one acts as one speaks in the correct teaching, and so on, the Bodhisattva says that the Dharma of the perfections is excellent and principal, so it is the reason for practice. Placing sentient beings in the perfections, those sentient beings in the words of the Bodhisattva
