The way of the Hearers and the world is that the field of begging, from the noble field of suffering, with the field of wrong conduct, is established in the noble field of possessing qualities. Although it is so, the Bodhisattva is the opposite, the field of possessing qualities is the noble field of wrong conduct, therefore the field of suffering is also the noble field of begging. Therefore, the Bodhisattvas make offerings to the above four fields. If the above four fields are not present, then offerings are made to the fifth, which is the field of merit. What is the reason for that? Those who desire to increase merit and enjoyment make offerings to the field of possessing qualities, but the Bodhisattva does not give alms for the sake of increasing merit and enjoyment. Rather, it is to eliminate the suffering, busyness, and poverty of sentient beings that alms are given, therefore offerings are made to the field of begging and the field of suffering, not to the field of merit. Abiding refers to where one abides and gives, etc. Abiding refers to the mind, where one abides and gives external and internal things. That is, abiding in faith, abiding in attention, and abiding in samadhi, there are three. Faith is the third attention in the classification of how to practice. Abiding in faith refers to the attention of faith mentioned after the classification of the previous practice was explained. How was it explained at that time? From the Perfection of Giving to the Perfection of Wisdom, for the Great Vehicle Sutra that possesses the six perfections, 'This is an unerring explanation, it is well spoken,' this is the first point, with deep faith, believing and trusting. Attention refers to how from that, etc. Abiding in attention refers to the three types of attention mentioned at the time of explaining the classification of how to practice, namely, the attention of tasting, the attention of rejoicing, and the attention of joy. Among them, first remembering the previously given perfections such as generosity.

Thinking "It is good" after giving alms in the past, looking at it as a virtue, is called remembering tasting. Being happy in mind about the alms given by sentient beings from the ten directions of the world is called rejoicing in remembrance. Being happy that one will give alms wherever one is born in the future, and that sentient beings will also give alms wherever they are born in the future, is called manifest joy in remembrance. Samadhi is Akashagarbha and so on, and it is said that there is wealth in that very place. Abiding in samadhi means that bodhisattvas who have entered the eighth bhumi and so on, attain the samadhi of Akashagarbha and so on through the path of non-manifestation, and then take and give whatever objects they desire from the sky. This is when distinguishing meditation, three kinds of wealth are explained, and the samadhi of Akashagarbha and so on also belongs to one of the three kinds of wealth. The three kinds of wealth are: being in control of the body, being in control of conduct, and being in control of manifestation. Among them, being in control of the body refers to the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata and the Sambhogakaya, these two bodies perform almsgiving without obstruction. Being in control of conduct refers to the Nirmanakaya, which transforms itself into various forms for sentient beings, thereby engaging them in almsgiving and other virtuous deeds. Being in control of manifestation refers to the six perfections being unobstructed, unattached, and uninterrupted. Among them, it should be understood that it is indicated by "who", and the eight kinds of excellence are also taught starting from "who gives". Who gives? The ground gives. What is given? Objects are given. By what is it given? It is given by characteristics. For what is it given? It is given for dedication, that is, for supreme bodhi. From where is it given? It is given from the cause of the habit of being accustomed to giving alms in previous lives. By what is it taken? It is taken by non-discriminating wisdom. Where is it given? It is given to the five kinds of fields.
