Entering the state of nirvana that has abandoned conceptual elaborations will lead to exhaustion. However, the discipline of a Bodhisattva, being fully embraced by great compassion, will ensure that even after entering nirvana without residue, the activities of discipline will never cease as long as the wheel of pure worldly wisdom and the expanse of space endure. This fourth line indicates the inexhaustible nature. Therefore, in the Sutra of Inexhaustible Intelligence, it is also said: "Venerable Sharadvatiputra, inexhaustible discipline is regarded as such because the continuum is inexhaustible." Why is that? The discipline of ordinary beings is exhausted by the place of rebirth. The discipline of those with the five supernormal powers of outsiders is exhausted by the decline of supernormal powers. The discipline of humans is exhausted by the exhaustion of the path of the ten virtuous actions. The discipline of the sons of gods in the desire realm is exhausted by the exhaustion of merit. The discipline of the sons of gods in the form realm is exhausted by the exhaustion of immeasurables and meditations. The discipline of the sons of gods in the formless realm is exhausted when those born from such samadhi are exhausted. The discipline of Hearers, Learners, and Non-learners is exhausted at the end of nirvana. The discipline of solitary Buddhas is exhausted by separation from great compassion. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, the discipline of Bodhisattvas is inexhaustible. Why is that? Because all disciplines arise from this discipline," and so on. Sons of the Buddha, all the harms that are difficult for humans to bear, they endure. There are three types of patience for Bodhisattvas: patience that does not mind harm, patience that does not care about suffering, and patience that is definitely certain about the Dharma. Because Bodhisattvas cherish sentient beings like their only child, they endure all kinds of harm caused by sentient beings using sticks and stones, and so on. This is patience that does not mind harm. What is difficult to practice is maturing sentient beings, and when engaging in the practice of giving the Buddha's teachings, enduring cold, heat, and hunger.

Enduring all sufferings such as hunger and thirst is to endure all that is difficult to endure. This is called endurance that does not care about suffering. Therefore, since all internal and external sufferings are endured, this first line shows vastness. Therefore, in the *Arya Akshayamati Sutra*, it is also said: 'The son of the venerable Sharadvati observes the patience of the Bodhisattvas with thirty-two aspects.' What are the thirty-two aspects? 'He observes patience in order to abandon latent tendencies. He observes patience in order not to harm,' and so on, which are extensively taught. 'Not for the sake of heavenly realms, not for fear of inability, not for the sake of repaying kindness.' Bodhisattvas abide in patience, not to obtain the happiness of heavenly realms. It is not because they have obtained the six superknowledges and possess power, therefore they do not endure because they are incapable of great powers and so on. It is not because they are free from the five fears and are afraid of kings and thieves that they endure. It is not because 'I have endured these beings, and they will repay me' that they endure. Therefore, this second line shows the absence of contamination. 'With unparalleled patience, he places all beings in the three enlightenments.' This third line shows great meaning. The three kinds of patience are called unsurpassed patience. Knowledge With the patience of grasping, he establishes the inexhaustible world. This fourth line shows inexhaustibility, and also explains the patience of definite understanding of the Dharma. The detailed explanation of the meaning of the words should be combined as explained before. Its meaning is also stated in the *Arya Akshayamati Sutra*: 'What is that patience that is completely pure? That is, truly understanding it to be like the sound of a valley, therefore not reviling back when reviled. Truly understanding the body to be like an image, therefore not striking back when struck,' and so on. Furthermore, what is that profound patience? That is, realizing emptiness, there is no elimination even for that which has become a view. There is also no superimposition on emptiness, the one who has become a view is emptiness, therefore this patience is profound patience.'
