ཅས་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི་བདག་གིས་ཐོབ་པའི་སྤང་བ་དང་བླང་བ་དང༌། བསྒོམ་པར་བྱ་བའི་ཆོས་རྣམས་ཀྱི་རང་དང་སྤྱིའི་མཚན་ཉིད་སེམས་ལ་གསལ་བར་སྣང་སྟེ། ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱིས་གསལ་བར་མཐོང་ངོ་ཞེས་བྱ་བའི་དོན་ཏེ། འདི་ནི་མཚན་མ་རྣམ་པ་གཅིག་གོ ། "ཅས་" means that the characteristics, both specific and general, of the dharmas that I have attained to abandon, adopt, and cultivate, appear clearly in the mind, and are clearly seen by wisdom. This is the first sign. In reality, after attaining the first bhumi, the dharmas of abandonment, adoption, and cultivation of the first bhumi appear clearly in the mind, and faith, confidence, and desire arise in order to attain the second bhumi, which has not yet been attained. If such a sign appears, it should be known that the first bhumi has already been attained. The same applies to the higher bhumis, such as the second bhumi. མ་ཞུམ་པ་དང་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ལ། ནམ་ས་ཐོབ་པར་གྱུར་ནས་དང་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་པ་དང་ཡང་དག་པར་ལྡན་པའི་ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་ཆོས་ཟབ་ཅིང་རྒྱ་ཆེ་བ་རྣམས་ལ་སྐྲག་པ་དང་ཞུམ་པའི་སེམས་མི་སྐྱེ་སྟེ། འདི་ནི་མཚན་མ་གཉིས་པའོ། ། "Not being timid" means that once a bhumi has been attained, fear and timidity will not arise towards the profound and vast Mahayana teachings that are in accordance with the paramitas. This is the second sign. Among them, meditating on the selflessness of persons and phenomena is called profound. Expounding the bhumis, paramitas, powers, fearlessnesses, and other dharmas is called vast. སྐྱེ་བ་མེད་ཅེས་བྱ་བ་ལ། སར་ཞུགས་པ་དང་བདག་གཞན་གྱི་དོན་དུ་གྲང་བ་དང་ཚ་བ་དང༌། བཀྲེས་པ་དང་སྐོམ་པ་དང༌། མགོ་དང་རྐང་ལག་ལ་སོགས་པ་གཏོང་བའི་དཀའ་བར་སྤྱོད་པ་སྡུག་བསྔལ་སྣ་ཚོགས་འབྱུང་ཡང་སྐྱོ་བའི་སེམས་མི་སྐྱེ་ཞིང་སེམས་ལྡོག་པར་མི་བྱེད་པར་འགྱུར་ཏེ། འདི་ནི་མཚན་མ་གསུམ་པའོ། ། "Without discouragement" means that after entering a bhumi, even if one experiences various sufferings such as cold, heat, hunger, thirst, and the difficulties of giving away one's head, hands, and feet for the benefit of oneself and others, one will not develop a mind of discouragement and will not turn back. This is the third sign. གཞན་དྲིང་མི་འཇོག་བདག་ཉིད་དོ། །ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ལ། བདག་ཉིད་ཅེས་བྱ་བ་ནི་རང་གི་བསོད་ནམས་དང་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་བྱས་ཤིང༌། རྟོགས་པར་བྱས་ཟིན་པའི་ས་ལ་བྱ་སྟེ། རང་གིས་ཐོབ་ཟིན་པའི་ས་ལ་ནི་གཞན་གྱི་དྲིང་མི་འཇོག་གི །ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། ས་དེ་བདག་གིས་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་བྱས་མ་ཟིན་པས། ད་དེ་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་བྱ་བའི་ཕྱིར་དགེ་བའི་བཤེས་གཉེན་ལ་བརྟེན་མི་དགོས་ཏེ་འདི་ནི་མཚན་མ་བཞི་པའོ། ། "Not relying on others" means that "self-nature" refers to the bhumi that has been directly realized and understood through the power of one's own merit and wisdom. One does not rely on others for the bhumi that one has already attained. Why? Because I have already directly realized this bhumi, and now I do not need to rely on a spiritual friend in order to directly realize it. This is the fourth sign. རབ་ཏུ་རྟོགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་དུ། །ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ལ། ས་ལ་ཞུགས་ཀྱང་ས་གང་མ་ཐོབ་པ་རྣམས་ཐོབ་པར་བྱ་བའི་ཕྱིར། དེ་ཐོབ་པར་བྱ་བའི་ཐབས་རྟོགས་ཤིང༌། ས་དེ་འགྲུབ་པར་བྱ་བའི་ཐབས་ལ་མཁས་པར་འགྱུར་ཏེ། དཔེར་ནས་དང་པོ་རྟོགས་ཤིང་ཁོང་དུ་ཆུད་ན་ལྷག་མ་མ་ཐོབ་པ་རྣམས་ཐོབ་པར་བྱ་བ་ལ་ཡང་མཁས་པར་འགྱུར་རོ། ། "Completely understanding everything" means that even if one has entered a bhumi, in order to attain those bhumis that have not yet been attained, one understands the methods for attaining those bhumis and becomes skilled in the methods for accomplishing those bhumis. For example, if one first understands and comprehends the first one, one will also become skilled in attaining the remaining ones that have not yet been attained. Therefore, if the tenth bhumi bodhisattva realizes the dharmadhatu in the first bhumi through the non-conceptual wisdom from the first bhumi, then all the bhumis will also be realized.

If asked, how can one realize it? Because one knows the method by which the remaining grounds can be accomplished by the pure worldly wisdom that arises after non-discrimination, one can realize it. This is the fifth characteristic. Similarly, the remaining grounds should also be applied in the same way. Therefore, from the first ground, the Bodhisattva Vajragarbha said: 'O sons of the Victorious Ones, the Bodhisattva, after having fully trained in the first ground, has faith in these two.' Ten thoughts arise in his mind. What are the ten? They are the thought of uprightness, the thought of gentleness, and the thought of being capable, and so on. The Bodhisattva Vajragarbha also spoke of the method of entering the third ground from the second ground: 'O sons of the Victorious Ones, the Bodhisattva, after having thoroughly trained his mind on the second ground, completely overcomes the third ground. He completely overcomes it with ten thoughts in his mind.' What are the ten? They are the thought of purity, the thought of an unmoving mind, and so on. The lower grounds should also be applied in the same way. 'The nature of universal equality,' refers to the Bodhisattvas who abide on the ground, because they have realized the selflessness of persons and phenomena, they understand the characteristic of the Dharma realm that pervades everywhere. They do not regard 'I and sentient beings' as different, but think that all sentient beings are me, and I am all sentient beings, and thus they attain the mind of equality between self and sentient beings. This is the sixth characteristic. 'Not being led astray,' the meaning of 'not being led astray' is the meaning of unchanging or not being controlled. The Bodhisattvas who abide on the ground, because they have accumulated a great collection of merit, possess perfect virtue, and because they have accumulated a collection of wisdom, they understand that all dharmas are empty. They have no attachment to anything, and no hatred for anything. Therefore, whatever arises, such as praise and non-praise, happiness and suffering, etc., does not move them. These cannot change their minds, and even if they are praised, they do not generate pride.
