Being manifestly diligent in completely seeking the Dharma, day and night he strives to listen to the Dharma. He desires the Dharma, rejoices in the Dharma, relies on the Dharma, is devoted to the Dharma, inclines to the Dharma, and is directed towards the Dharma. He seeks a place for the Dharma, seeks refuge in the Dharma, and practices Dharma conduct in accordance with the Dharma. Being manifestly diligent in completely seeking the Buddha's Dharma, there is nothing that he does not completely abandon, whether it be the form of material possessions, or the form of wealth, grain, storehouses, or granaries. He does not perceive this as difficult, except that others may perceive it as difficult for the Dharma speaker. There is nothing that he does not completely relinquish, even slightly, of external objects that are closely grasped. There is nothing that he does not completely relinquish, even slightly, of internal objects. There is nothing that he does not practice, even slightly, of the complete enjoyment and service of the guru. Even from the mind of pride, he abandons pride. How is it that he cultivates the absence of pride? There is nothing that he does not practice. From then on, if someone were to say to him, "If you, as the master, were to experience great suffering with your own body in a great pit of fire that is burning everywhere, blazing intensely everywhere, and with flames united as one, then I will explain to you this practice of the Bodhisattva, taught by the perfectly complete Buddha, which is the complete training of the Dharma words," he would think, "For the sake of even one word of Dharma in the teaching of the perfectly complete Buddha, which is the complete practice of the conduct of a Bodhisattva, I would be willing to abandon myself from the world of Brahma, even if the three thousand great thousand worlds were filled with fire. What need is there to mention abandoning myself in an ordinary pit of fire? Even if I were to experience all the suffering of sentient beings in hell, I would seek the Dharma. What need is there to mention being accompanied by the suffering of fire?" Thus he spoke. In this way, the thought of single-minded reverence for the Dharma in the third ground is reversed in the fourth ground. How is it reversed? Like this, whatever one-pointed seeking of the Dharma there is, it also causes the mind to be distracted and the mind to become arrogant. Therefore, abandoning that seeking, he intensely applies himself to meditating on the aspects of enlightenment.

It is done. Therefore, from the fourth bhumi itself, O sons of the Victorious Ones, that bodhisattva abiding in the Illuminating Ground of the bodhisattva, possessing all purification, possessing mindfulness, possessing awareness, having abandoned worldly attachment and discomfort with compassion. He abides contemplating the body on the inner body. And so on, it was said. Regarding "lineage and afflictions, distinct purity," combine "no distinction of lineage" and "no pride in the distinction of afflictions and purity." Therefore, bodhisattvas abiding on the fifth bhumi are called persons without pride in the distinction of lineage. At that time, the thought of the mind is completely pure, without diminishing, having attained the ten bhumis, the lineage of the tathagatas of the three times, the dharmas of the tathagatas of the three times, and the lineage of the mind of the bodhisattva abiding on the fifth bhumi, and in the dharmas, since the nature of complete purity is understood to be without difference, it is called a person without pride in the distinction of lineage. Regarding the ten samenesses of complete purity of mind, it is said in the fifth bhumi itself: O sons of the Victorious Ones, the fourth bhumi of the bodhisattva, having completely perfected the path of the bhumi, enters the fifth bhumi of the bodhisattva, and enters with purity and the ten samenesses of mind. What are the ten? They are as follows: the sameness of complete purity of thought of the dharma of the past buddhas, the sameness of complete purity of thought of the dharma of the future buddhas, the sameness of complete purity of thought of the dharma of the present buddhas, the sameness of complete purity of thought of ethics, the sameness of complete purity of thought of mind, sameness, and the sameness of complete purity of thought by eliminating views, hesitation, and doubt, and the sameness of complete purity of thought by knowing the path and the non-path, and the sameness of complete purity of thought by knowing to abandon diligence, and the sameness of complete purity of thought by meditating from higher to higher in all the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, and the sameness of complete purity of thought by completely ripening sentient beings.
