It is said that when one sees the limbs of enlightenment completely fulfilled, one specifically thinks that those will not arise due to karma, except by the power of aspiration. Then, regarding "The aspects of enlightenment are completely dedicated to samsara," etc., the word "then" means "after that." After completing the third ground, the characteristic of the fourth ground is that the aspects of enlightenment are manifested by wisdom, and with the characteristic of great compassion, it is established as the characteristic of completely dedicating to samsara for the benefit of sentient beings. The objection is, if the aspects of enlightenment are the cause that brings about liberation from samsara, how can they be completely dedicated to samsara and become the cause of samsara? The answer is, for example, just as poison that is not controlled by method becomes the cause of death, and poison that is controlled by method becomes medicine, so too, the aspects of enlightenment that are not completely controlled by the characteristic of method, great compassion, practicing them becomes the cause of liberation from samsara, and the aspects of enlightenment that are controlled by the method of great compassion, practicing them becomes the cause of being reborn in samsara again. In this way, a compassionate bodhisattva turns his back on samsara, and practicing the aspects of enlightenment is also due to the effect of compassion, practicing for the benefit of sentient beings. Therefore, those aspects of enlightenment do not turn their backs on samsara, but become the cause of manifesting samsara, so it is said that they are completely dedicated to samsara. Therefore, it is also said from the fourth ground, "O sons of the Victorious Ones, the bodhisattva who dwells on this Radiant Ground of the bodhisattva, is one who possesses all conduct and possesses correct knowledge, possesses mindfulness, completely abandons worldly attachment and displeasure, and dwells as one who contemplates the body on the inner body," until "dwells in correct samadhi in a secluded place, dwells in detachment, dwells in cessation, and cultivates complete purification." Those too are accompanied by looking upon all sentient beings, and because the aspiration has been fulfilled previously, they are very stable, with great compassion as the forerunner, and possess great love.

and other such dharmas. Without afflictions of mind, one also matures sentient beings. Thus, the characteristic of the fifth ground is that bodhisattvas, without afflictions of mind, mature sentient beings, and this is how it is established. "Without afflictions of mind" means that on this ground, one does not contemplate the noble truths, and because one has the means to counteract afflictions, one's mind is not tainted by afflictions such as attachment, and therefore, one's mind is without afflictions. One is skilled in various kinds of crafts and arts, and therefore, that skilled one also matures sentient beings of the three vehicles. Therefore, on the fifth ground, through memory, wisdom, and the power of understanding, one engages in mental activities. Having become irreversible, one truly knows, as it is, that this is the truth of suffering. This is the origin of suffering. This is the cessation of suffering. This is the noble truth of the path that leads to the cessation of suffering. Such things are also taught. Moreover, in seeking all excellent dharmas, through diligence, one realizes all that exists in this world, such as writing, crafts, mathematics, and ethical methods. One investigates the sources of things, investigates healing, eliminates emaciation and forgetfulness, dispels the influence of spirits, neutralizes poisons and the spells of zombies, and engages in mantras, dances, speech, music, and stories to bring joy. One gradually realizes all things that benefit and bring happiness to all sentient beings, and with great compassion, one gradually establishes them in the Dharma of the Buddha. Thus it is taught. "As intended, one takes birth and protects all the secondary afflictions." Thus, the characteristic of the sixth ground of a bodhisattva is that one takes birth in the world as intended and protects all the secondary afflictions, and this is how it is established. Bodhisattvas who dwell on the sixth ground take birth in the three realms for the benefit of sentient beings, not helplessly due to the power of karma and afflictions, but through the power of merit and wisdom.
