Not abandoning sentient beings and gathering them. This is stated in the Sutra of the First Ground of the Ten Grounds: "Thus, that which is free from the perception of self, and has no attachment to self, how much less would it have attachment to all possessions? That which has no expectation of even the slightest service from anyone, but rather thinks, 'I myself shall gather those sentient beings with all kinds of possessions.'" and so on, is extensively taught. Why is it that sentient beings are completely gathered by being made the master? When a Bodhisattva becomes a king, minister, lord, or official, etc., and has power, he uses his power and authority to turn sentient beings away from non-virtue and place them in virtue. For example, in the first ground of the ten grounds, it says that the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides there mostly becomes a king in Jambudvipa (the Rose Apple Continent), and is very skilled at gaining control over great power, protecting it with Dharma, and is skilled and powerful in gathering sentient beings with great generosity. He is skilled at removing the stain of stinginess from sentient beings, and so on, is extensively taught. In the second ground, it also says: "The Bodhisattvas who abide there mostly become universal monarchs, ruling over the four continents, and are very skilled at gaining control through Dharma, possessing the seven precious things, skilled and powerful in removing the faults of stinginess and the stains of bad morality from all sentient beings, and extremely skilled in placing sentient beings on the path of the ten virtuous actions." and so on, is extensively taught. In the third ground and so on, it is also combined as it appears in the sutras, benefiting sentient beings after becoming kings and lords. Gathering sentient beings in order to properly guide the retinue is to become a Khenpo and a teacher, making sentient beings disciples, turning sentient beings away from non-virtuous places and placing them in virtuous places. In the verses called "Distinguishing Births," it says: Thus, a Bodhisattva who has entered into gathering sentient beings does not, like a Shravaka, merely abide in the direction of Nirvana, therefore he does not

If born in samsara, one is initially able to gather sentient beings. Therefore, in order to fully gather, under the classification, one verse explains the classification of birth. In short, there are four types of Bodhisattva births: birth by the power of karma, birth by the power of aspiration, birth by the power of samadhi, and birth by the power of abundance. The phrase "by the power of karmas" indicates birth by the power of karma, that is, Bodhisattvas who have entered the first ground and abide in the ground of adhimukticarya are born by the power of karma. Since they have not yet attained mastery over the mind, it is not certain that they will be able to accomplish whatever they think of or aspire to. Because they have performed the karma of accumulating merit, they are born in places that benefit themselves and others. Such birth is not born from sinful and unwholesome karma. The phrase "also by the power of aspirations" refers to Bodhisattvas who have entered the ground. Bodhisattvas who have entered the first and second grounds, in order to fully ripen sentient beings, make aspirations to be born in places such as gods, humans, animals, hungry ghosts, and hell beings. They take birth by the power of aspiration. During times of great famine, in order to eliminate the suffering of sentient beings such as hunger and thirst, they aspire to be born as fish or elephants, and satisfy sentient beings with their own flesh. Or when the intermediate kalpa of disease arises, and sentient beings are suffering from various diseases, by the power of aspiration, they transform into those who have accomplished mantras or the body of a great physician, and pacify the various diseases of sentient beings. This is as explained in the chapter on revealing the secret of the body in the Tathagata Guhyasamadhana Sutra. The phrase "samadhi" refers to Bodhisattvas from the third ground up to the seventh ground, who are born by the power of samadhi for the benefit of sentient beings. Because of practicing samadhi and dhyana, they are in the realm of form.
