Speaking well is encompassed by the perfection of discipline and the perfection of wisdom. Among these, not immediately speaking harsh words to sentient beings, but speaking pleasant words is encompassed by the perfection of discipline. Speaking of the sacred Dharma is encompassed by the perfection of wisdom. Among these, steadfastness is encompassed by the perfection of diligence, the perfection of patience, and the perfection of wisdom. Extending a hand is encompassed by the perfection of generosity. Explaining profound meanings is encompassed by the perfection of meditation and the perfection of wisdom. In order to indicate the function of these five characteristics, it is said, "Complete gathering and obtaining faith, encompassed by the two of non-weariness." The action of having compassion is that the mind of enlightenment completely seizes sentient beings. If one has compassion, one promises to liberate all sentient beings encompassed by the four births from the nirvana without remainder of aggregates. Speaking well is speaking in order to cause sentient beings to generate faith in the Buddha's teachings. Bodhisattvas smile and immediately speak pleasant words, and lead sentient beings through the door of teaching the Dharma, causing them to generate faith in the Buddha's teachings. To be endowed with steadfastness is for the sake of completely maturing oneself and completely maturing sentient beings, so that one does not become weary or retreat from external sufferings such as cold and heat, and internal sufferings such as hunger and thirst. One should be endowed with steadfastness. If one becomes endowed with steadfastness, one will not become weary of the sufferings of practicing austerities. Extending a hand and explaining profound meanings, together with placing sentient beings in nirvana, thinking in this way is called the intention of increasing benefit, that is, if sentient beings attain nirvana with remainder of aggregates, they will have benefit because there is no torment of afflictions such as desire. Thinking that one will place sentient beings in the nirvana of abandoning without remainder of aggregates, this is the intention of increasing bliss.

It is called Adhimukti. If the remaining aggregates of sentient beings completely attain Nirvana, then they will be endowed with happiness by being free from the suffering of birth, old age, etc. Among them, wanting to attain Nirvana through the five kinds of superior intentions is the intention of benefit and happiness. Therefore, it is summarized into the superior intention of benefit and the superior intention of happiness. Up to this point, two kinds of superior intentions have been explained. Such an intention is the intention of benefit and the superior intention of happiness of steadfast Bodhisattvas towards sentient beings. This explains the distinction of superior intentions for the benefit of sentient beings. Impure refers to the intention of Bodhisattvas abiding in the stage of Adhimukticarya, called the impure superior intention. Because they have not realized the nature of all dharmas that pervade the Dharmadhatu, and have not abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of seeing, as well as the attachment to the apprehended and the apprehender, it is called impure. Pure refers to the intention of Bodhisattvas from the first Bhumi up to the seventh Bhumi, called the pure superior intention. Because the Bodhisattvas abiding in these Bhumis have completely abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of seeing, and also have no attachment to the apprehended and the apprehender, and have also mostly abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of cultivation and the obscurations of knowledge, it is called pure. Extremely pure refers to the intention of Bodhisattvas abiding in the irreversible Bhumi, that is, the eighth, ninth, and tenth Bhumis, called the extremely pure intention. Why? Because in the seven Bhumis and below, due to effort and exertion, there is the aspect of effort and exertion, but after obtaining the eighth Bhumi and above, all effort and exertion are abandoned, and it is naturally accomplished, so there is no turning back from the aspect of effort and exertion, therefore it is called extremely joyful. Through these words, I have gained freedom, thereby explaining the distinction of superior intentions. In all Bhumis means that Bodhisattvas add the stage of Adhimukticarya to the ten Bhumis, and in all of these eleven Bhumis, five kinds of superior intentions will arise.
