These are called suffering sentient beings. Butchers and hunters, etc., who engage in evil deeds through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, are called misbehaving sentient beings. Those sentient beings who are attached to singing and dancing, etc., and cling to the qualities of the five desires, are called heedless sentient beings. Those who renounce the household life but cling to various non-Buddhist views are called wrongly entered sentient beings. Those ordinary individuals who have not abandoned the afflictions of the three realms are called those who possess the latent tendencies of afflictions. Bodhisattvas generate great compassion by focusing on these five types of sentient beings. Furthermore, there are five supports and objects for speaking well: speaking truthfully and completely, making others truly happy, truly relieving, truly resolving, and teaching the essential instructions of wisdom. Asking about well-being every day is speaking truthfully and completely. Speaking about the flourishing of children, relatives, and friends, and the increase of treasures and grains, etc., is making others truly happy. If fear arises from kings and thieves, etc., speaking words that protect from fear is truly relieving. Undertaking tasks even without being asked, and promising to help those engaged in activities, is truly resolving. Teaching the Dharma that leads to liberation and higher realms is called truly teaching. Bodhisattvas engage in speaking well by focusing on these objects. Furthermore, there are five stable supports and objects for Bodhisattvas: experiencing various sufferings of samsara, being subjected to various wrongdoings by untamed sentient beings, vowing to remain in samsara for a long time for the sake of sentient beings, being refuted in various ways by opponents when teaching the Dharma in large gatherings, and vowing to uphold all the precepts of a Bodhisattva and listening to the vast Dharma. Furthermore, there are five places and supports for Bodhisattvas to extend their hands: the great giving and the differences.
