Giving without stinginess, giving with respect, giving without afflictions, and giving without dependence. Among these, giving away all internal and external possessions is called the great giving. There should be no thought of giving to some and not to others; rather, one should give equally to all sentient beings, which is called giving without discrimination. Giving to beggars with one's own hands, with reverence, is called giving with respect. One should not give poison or weapons, but rather give what will lead to happiness in future lives, which is called giving without afflictions. Giving without attachment to the fruition of giving in future lives, and without attachment to receiving a return in this life, is called giving without abiding. Regarding the explanation of the profound intentions of Bodhisattvas, there are also five supports and objects: namely, the profound sutras spoken by the Tathagatas, which appear profound, possess emptiness, arise dependently, and follow the principles of both forward and reverse order, are the first support. The Vinaya, which is skilled in knowing transgressions and skilled in confessing transgressions, is the second support. Accurately establishing the individual and general characteristics of all phenomena is the third support. Discriminating the names, words, and so forth that contain hidden meanings within each of the sutras is the fourth support. Differentiating the various Dharma phrases of all phenomena is the fifth support. For those who possess compassion, in this life, they will attain a mind that is free from enemies and dwells in peace, and in future lives, they will be born in the happy realms of gods and humans, which should be recognized as the result of possessing compassion. Bodhisattvas who speak well abandon the four verbal misdeeds, namely, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle chatter, and in this life and future lives, they will obtain the result of their words being dignified and accepted by others, which is the result of speaking well. Bodhisattvas who possess diligence will, in this life, be completely free from laziness and negligence, and will guard the Bodhisattva's precepts with a joyful mind.

Moreover, one who correctly takes vows, does not abandon them after taking them, follows oneself and others with patience, and in the future, constantly and firmly engages in the activities of Bodhisattvas, without abandoning or turning back until the activities are completed, these should be known as the fruits of steadfastness. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas who possess generosity benefit sentient beings in this life by giving away inner and outer possessions, and through this cause, they themselves will become greatly wealthy in future lives and will completely perfect the great accumulation of enlightenment, this is the fruit of generosity. Bodhisattvas who profoundly unravel the hidden meaning, in this life, through explaining Sutras, Vinaya, and Matrikas, eliminate the ignorance, wrong knowledge, and doubts of sentient beings, and in future lives, they will also obtain the great light of wisdom that is skilled in all fields of knowledge, this is the fruit of profoundly unraveling the hidden meaning. The order of these five characteristics is that initially, Bodhisattvas have compassion for sentient beings, therefore compassion is taught first. Then, the Bodhisattva who possesses compassion, in order to benefit sentient beings, teaches the instructions of reasoning in order to arouse sentient beings from non-virtuous states and place them in virtuous states, therefore, good speech is taught after that. Thus, one who possesses compassion and engages in good speech for the benefit of sentient beings, experiences various sufferings of Samsara, and does not abandon or turn back from the benefit of sentient beings, therefore, steadfastness is taught after that. Thus, those who possess steadfastness benefit those who have not entered the teachings by giving them material possessions in order to lead them into the teachings, and they benefit those who have entered the teachings by teaching them the Dharma, therefore, generosity and profoundly unraveling the hidden meaning are taught after that. These five characteristics are included in the six Paramitas, which Paramita includes which characteristic? Compassion is included in the Paramita of Dhyana (meditation), good
