Regarding the classification of the matrix, there are two verses. Thus, although the Bodhisattva who possesses the aforementioned qualities is endowed with perfect qualities, they conceal their virtuous deeds. Even when their merits are revealed, it is like knowing there is water where water birds are seen, and knowing there is fire where signs of smoke are seen. Similarly, these Bodhisattvas also exhibit five signs that are in accordance with the six perfections. Through these five signs, one knows, "This is a Bodhisattva," and thus enters the ranks of Bodhisattvas. This is explained in two verses: "Compassion, well-spoken words, Steadfast, hand outstretched, Profound meaning explained, These signs are shown." That is to say, steadfast Bodhisattvas possess five signs that are in accordance with the six perfections: possessing compassion, possessing well-spoken words, possessing steadfastness, extending a hand, and explaining profound meanings. These five dharmas are also explained in five ways: nature, basis, subsequent praise of the fruit, order, and collection. Among these, the nature of compassion is twofold: possessing thought and possessing action. Among these, possessing thought is also twofold: the thought of benefit and the thought of happiness. Among these, leading out from a state of non-virtue and establishing in a state of virtue is the thought of benefit. Turning away from the suffering of the three lower realms and establishing in liberation and higher realms is called the thought of happiness. Among these, possessing action refers to, relying on this thought, Bodhisattvas establish sentient beings in benefit and happiness through the three doors of body, speech, and mind. This is called possessing action. Therefore, Bodhisattvas are called possessing compassion. So, what is the nature of well-spoken words? It is twofold: the nature of worldly conventional speech and the nature of the language of teaching the Dharma. Among these, the nature of worldly conventional speech is also twofold: causing universal joy and causing true joy.

Among these, the act of making everyone happy involves smiling and abandoning angry expressions, and constantly inquiring about their well-being, etc. The act of truly making them happy is, if one sees the prosperity of beings' children, relatives, and friends, or sees the increase of wealth and grains, one makes beings happy by speaking such words. The nature of teaching the Dharma is that whatever Dharma is taught, such as the perfections and aspects of enlightenment, by teaching the Dharma that enables beings to attain liberation and higher realms, this is showing the nature of good speech. Among these, the nature of instruction is that when a Bodhisattva, endowed with wisdom, samadhi, and diligence, accomplishes the benefit of self and others, no matter what suffering or fear arises, they are not afraid, not discouraged, possess power, and do not turn back; this should be understood as the nature of steadfastness. Among these, the nature of extending the hand is twofold: when giving, there is great giving and giving without afflictions. Among these, giving away everything, even one's head, feet, hands, etc., for internal objects, and giving away even the enjoyments of a universal monarch, etc., for external objects, is called great giving. Whatever is given, if it is a giving that would cause harm in this life and future lives, such as poison and weapons, etc., should not be given, but flawless objects should be given; this is called giving without afflictions. This should be understood as the nature of extending the hand. Among these, the nature of definitively interpreting profound intentions is that, possessing the four individual correct knowledges, one continuously and non-perversely explains the four intentions of the Tathagata and the hidden intentions, etc.; this should be understood as the nature of definitively interpreting intentions. Among these, the support or object of compassion is fivefold: suffering beings, beings who act improperly, negligent beings, beings who have gone astray, and beings who have latent afflictions. Among these, beings born in the three lower realms
