Thus, things like land are spoken of. Among these, abandoning suffering is the perfection of generosity, because generosity enables those beings afflicted by suffering such as cold and hunger to be given provisions such as food and clothing, thereby freeing them from suffering such as cold and hunger. The so-called "absence of causing suffering," the absence of causing suffering is the perfection of discipline, because discipline does not kill the lives of beings, nor does it take what is not given, therefore it does not cause suffering to life and property, etc. The so-called "enduring suffering," enduring suffering is the perfection of patience, because those who possess patience, when other beings inflict various kinds of harm on their body and life, and experience suffering-producing events, they endure the suffering and do not retaliate with harm. The so-called "absence of fear of suffering," etc., the absence of fear of suffering is the perfection of diligence, because those who vigorously engage in diligence in virtuous activities, even if internal and external suffering such as cold and heat arise during the time of engaging in diligence, they are not afraid, because they do not turn back from engaging in diligence. The so-called "liberation from suffering," liberation from suffering is the perfection of meditation, because those who have attained meditation and samadhi, due to being free from desire in the desire realm, are born into higher realms. Therefore, they do not experience the suffering of being born in the three lower realms of the desire realm. The so-called "absence of conceptualization of suffering," the absence of conceptualization of suffering is the perfection of wisdom, because those who possess the perfection of wisdom do not conceive of the self, the cause of suffering, and the three sufferings as having inherent existence, because these have shown the accomplishment of the six perfections. The so-called "accepting suffering is a Bodhisattva," accepting suffering is making aspirations for great Bodhi, making aspirations for Bodhi, for the benefit of beings, may I attain unsurpassed Bodhi.

And make the aspiration, saying: If one vows not to abandon the unsurpassed Bodhi for the sake of sentient beings, then one will initially attain the unsurpassed Bodhi. Since samsara is of the nature of suffering, if one vows for samsara, it is vowing for suffering. This shows the aspiration for great Bodhi. Thus, practicing the six perfections and aspiring for great Bodhi is the meaning of a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, in order to show that practicing the six perfections and aspiring for great Bodhi are the characteristics of a Bodhisattva by other means, "Joy in Dharma" and so on are mentioned. Among them, joy in Dharma is associated with the perfection of generosity, because those who possess generosity rejoice in the Dharma of giving away inner and outer things. What is called naturally rejoicing in Dharma, naturally rejoicing in Dharma is associated with the perfection of discipline, because those who possess discipline naturally rejoice in not producing even a particle of fault. What is called reproaching Dharma, reproaching Dharma is associated with the perfection of patience, because those who possess patience reproach the Dharma of hatred, which arises from impatience. What is called diligent in Dharma, diligent in Dharma is associated with the perfection of diligence, because those who possess diligence are always diligent in virtuous Dharmas, both worldly and transcendental. What is called Dharma sovereignty, Dharma sovereignty is associated with the perfection of meditation, because those who possess meditation are able to freely control the characteristic of one-pointedness of mind, and are able to freely use superknowledges such as the divine eye. What is called Dharma without darkness, Dharma without darkness is associated with the perfection of wisdom, for example, just as when there is no darkness, one can clearly see the things that should be seen, so too, those in whom the light of wisdom has arisen can clearly see the self-characteristics and general characteristics of all Dharmas. Therefore, those who possess wisdom are called Dharma without darkness.
