The Dharma of the declining side, which causes decline from the six perfections, is so called. The Dharma in which one abides, which causes the paramitas to increase and flourish, is called the Dharma of the excellent side. Those Bodhisattvas who abide in correct practice, the opposing factors of the six paramitas will decline and diminish, and the dharmas that become their antidotes will increase like the waxing moon. Therefore, decline and increase are shown by two verses. Attachment to enjoyment means attachment to the qualities of the five desires such as form, and is called attachment to enjoyment. If a Bodhisattva is attached to enjoyment, he will not be able to give completely, and therefore he will decline from the perfection of generosity. Breaking vows means that if a Bodhisattva breaks even the subtle precepts, he will decline from the perfection of discipline. Pride means that one does not respect the Khenpo, Acharya, and those with qualities with body, speech, and mind, and is called having pride. Because one cannot tolerate what exists, and considers the impossible to be possible, pride will cause the perfection of patience to decline. Indulging in comfort means being attached to the mere comfort of sleeping and chatting, and is called indulging in comfort. If one indulges in comfort in this way, one will not be able to enter the perfection of diligence, and therefore one will decline from the perfection of diligence. Tasting means being attached to the taste of meditation. If one tastes the taste of meditation, one will decline from meditation, and therefore it is the cause of declining from the perfection of meditation. Discrimination means thinking that there is a self, sentient beings, and material objects, and is called discrimination. If one discriminates in this way, non-discriminating wisdom will not arise, and therefore it is the cause of declining from wisdom. Their antidotes, the Bodhisattvas who abide, eliminate from those, know the Dharma of the excellent side. It means that their words refer to the above-mentioned from attachment to enjoyment to discrimination.

The six causes of degeneration with what, the antidote to these six causes is not being attached to enjoyment, not breaking the precepts, having no arrogance, not self-deprecating, not tasting the flavor of meditation, and not considering that self, sentient beings, and all phenomena exist. Abiding in these six antidotal dharmas reverses from the black dharmas, and abiding in the white dharmas, from the perfection of generosity to the perfection of wisdom, is the accumulation of the six perfections and the supreme practice dharma, this is its meaning. Differentiating into the image of merit has six verses, one is called "Six Roots," in which the causes of degeneration from the six perfections and the causes of increase of the six perfections are explained. If a Bodhisattva abides in the causes of degeneration of the six perfections, then it is called abiding in the image of merit, because he has no real merit, but only abides in false merit. If he abides in the cause of the perfections, then the Bodhisattva

When greatness and excellence arise, suddenly engaging in diligence is abiding in the image of diligence. Body, speech, and mind are likewise, meaning the body is peaceful, residing in places like under trees and rocks; speech is peaceful, speaking little, but various forms of agitation and distraction constantly arise in the mind. This is abiding in the image of meditation. Eloquent and perfect words mean there is no understanding of the self and common characteristics of the three vehicles of Dharma, but one is proficient in worldly grammar and logic, and when speaking, one merely utters the connection of words, without any comprehension of the meaning to be expressed. This is called abiding in the image of wisdom. Completely abandoning practice, is also said to be unreal. This means merely abiding in strength, abiding in eloquent and perfect words, but without the practice from giving onwards, to the realization of the self and common characteristics of Dharma. Then, that Bodhisattva's true Bodhi is said to be not the lazy hero of beings, but a Bodhisattva abiding merely in the image of reaching the other shore. Conversely, completely combining, that is truly declared. This means reversing the actions of the Bodhisattva who is complete in the three aspects from the strength mentioned above to eloquent and perfect words, starting from giving and so forth, to the wisdom of practicing and realizing the self-nature of the Dharma, then the Bodhisattva is said to abide in true qualities. In the verses of the chapter on distinguishing various disciplines, it says, the place of obtaining patience, the Bodhisattva abiding in such true qualities, is able to subdue the six perfections and the discordant aspects in the minds of beings. Therefore, the verses distinguishing various disciplines are taught by the supreme one to the heroes. In short, by what is subdued, in what place is one abiding while subduing, by practicing what Dharma is one subduing, by what is one subduing, and by subduing what is one subduing, the various distinctions of subduing are shown. The intelligent one says, all are grounds, all of Bodhi are ten, in what ground does one abide when subduing?
