ba la. When a Bodhisattva abides in the six perfections, they repay the kindness of sentient beings. Thus, both sentient beings and Bodhisattvas mutually repay each other's kindness, a meaning explained in two verses. "Not attached to enjoyments," means that for sentient beings lacking necessities such as food and clothing, the Bodhisattva gives all necessities, making them prosperous. Then, these sentient beings will repay the kindness of the Bodhisattva. Similarly, for sentient beings who are prosperous, they also engage in generosity and other virtuous deeds, abandoning stinginess because of their prosperity. These sentient beings have given help, so the Bodhisattva also repays the kindness of these sentient beings. "The discipline is also without blemish," means that if the Bodhisattva guides sentient beings to keep the precepts, then those sentient beings will repay the kindness of the Bodhisattva. Similarly, sentient beings, just as the Bodhisattva has guided them to keep the precepts, do not violate the precepts, carefully guarding against defeats, and also carefully guarding against minor faults such as transgressions. Then, the Bodhisattva will also repay the kindness of those sentient beings. "Possessing gratitude," means that although sentient beings harm the Bodhisattva through body and speech, the Bodhisattva, possessing patience, does not retaliate against sentient beings, but instead gives help again. Therefore, sentient beings will think that the Bodhisattva has not harmed us, and thus repay the kindness of the Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva delights in patience, and sentient beings also abide in patience, so the Bodhisattva will also repay the kindness of those sentient beings. "Also applying to practice," means that if the Bodhisattva guides sentient beings to practice diligence, meditation, and wisdom, then those sentient beings will repay the kindness of the Bodhisattva. Similarly, as the Bodhisattva has guided, sentient beings practice diligence.

And when practicing meditation, and when practicing wisdom, the Bodhisattva repays the kindness to those sentient beings. Regarding the six perfections, in this way, embodied beings are made to practice. Similarly, to the Bodhisattva, kindness will also be repaid again. This is called, in this way, when Bodhisattvas place sentient beings in the six perfections, sentient beings repay the kindness to the Bodhisattva. Similarly, when sentient beings are placed in the six perfections, and embodied sentient beings practice the six perfections, the Bodhisattva thinks, "These have helped me," and thus repays the kindness to them. The term "similarly" means that just as kindness is repaid to the Bodhisattva, when sentient beings are placed in the practice of the six perfections, those sentient beings think, "The Bodhisattva has helped us," and in the same way, they repay the kindness to the Bodhisattva. When sentient beings practice the six perfections, the Bodhisattva also thinks, "These sentient beings have helped me," and thus the Bodhisattva repays the kindness to those sentient beings again. The term "in ethics" means that when the Bodhisattva places sentient beings in ethics, just as those sentient beings repay the kindness to the Bodhisattva, when those sentient beings abide in ethics, the Bodhisattva also repays the kindness to those sentient beings. "Rejoicing in patience," the Bodhisattva, in order to repay the benefits done, repays kindness.

If you ask me what I practice? That is, I practice meditation and wisdom. The meaning of the "Verses on Differentiating Hopes" is: In order to benefit sentient beings and enter the Bodhisattva path, how can one obtain these five states? That is, generating hope and aspiration. In order to explain this, a verse was composed. The meaning of "increase and" is: Bodhisattvas always hope and desire how the six perfections from generosity to wisdom will increase. This is the first state of hope. The meaning of "wanting to decrease" is: Bodhisattvas always hope and desire how the opposite of the six perfections, from stinginess to wrong wisdom, will decrease and decline. This is the second state of hope and desire. The meaning of "sentient beings mature" is: Bodhisattvas always hope and desire to generate faith in sentient beings who have not generated faith, to establish sentient beings who have generated faith in virtue, and to fully mature sentient beings who have been established in virtue. This is the third state of hope. The meaning of "progress on the ground" is: Bodhisattvas always hope and desire, after obtaining the first ground, how to obtain the second ground, and after obtaining the ninth ground, how to obtain the tenth ground. This is the fourth state of hope. The meaning of "always for unsurpassed Bodhi" is: Bodhisattvas, at all times, after surpassing the ten grounds, hope how to obtain Buddhahood. This is the fifth state of hope. Even if Bodhisattvas hope and desire, they only generate hope and desire for these five states, and they do not generate any hope for worldly perfections, the path of Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Nirvana. The meaning of the "Verses on Differentiating Non-Wasted Effort" is: The effort made by Hearers is wasted because it is practiced for their own benefit and therefore has no benefit for sentient beings. And the effort of worldly people mostly becomes fruitless and is therefore wasted. But Bodhisattvas
