In order to perfect the accumulation of merit, in order to perfect the accumulation of wisdom, they are skilled in these methods. Just as a servant is skilled in calculation, has wisdom, and is skilled in the methods to quickly accomplish whatever tasks the master has to do, bodhisattvas are also skilled in the methods to enable sentient beings to attain worldly perfections and transcendent perfections. The method to attain worldly perfections is generosity and discipline, and so on. The method to attain transcendent perfections is to meditate on the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. Through five activities, they benefit sentient beings, like a teacher. Just as a teacher benefits students in five ways, bodhisattvas also benefit sentient beings through five activities. What are the five activities of a teacher? They are: being extremely well-trained themselves, teaching everything, teaching quickly, being radiant because of that nature, and possessing a mind free from defilements. Obtaining forbearance of non-arising dharmas, just as a teacher is extremely well-trained himself, knowing all the dharmas that should be explained and should be known, and is a teacher because he first benefits others. Bodhisattvas who have attained the eighth bhumi, which is obtaining forbearance of non-arising dharmas, for the dharmas that should be known, should be manifested, should be meditated upon, and should be abandoned, because they have obtained the non-conceptual wisdom that effortlessly practices, they are like a teacher who is extremely well-trained. Whatever they desire, they teach all vehicles. Just as a teacher teaches everything, not just teaching some and not teaching others, but teaching everything he knows to the students without reservation, bodhisattvas are also like that, for sentient beings who want to obtain forbearance of non-arising dharmas, they do not just teach some vehicles, but teach all the dharmas of the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and the Great Vehicle without reservation.

, because it makes them learn, so it is like a teacher. The meaning of "combining with the accomplishment of yoga" is how worldly teachers explain sound theory and cause theory, etc., in order to employ disciples as attendants, not letting those disciples become proficient quickly, but making them proficient over a long period of time. True teachers are not like that, but rather they make disciples quickly proficient in the lessons they have learned. Similarly, the sound of yoga refers to the practice of tranquility and insight. Because it makes sentient beings quickly accomplish the samadhi of practicing tranquility and insight, it is like a teacher. The meaning of "radiant" is how teachers have loving hearts towards their disciples, so they have no angry wrinkles, always have a smile on their faces, and speak gentle words. Similarly, Bodhisattvas also have loving hearts towards all sentient beings, so they have no angry wrinkles, show radiant faces, and speak gentle words, so they are like teachers. The meaning of "no return, no expectation of maturity" is that when teachers teach and explain the Dharma to disciples, they do not teach with a mind of pursuing fame and gain, but with a compassionate heart to eliminate the suffering of disciples. Similarly, when Bodhisattvas do good and bring happiness to sentient beings, they do not expect to be repaid in this life, nor do they expect the fruits of maturity in the next life, but rather bestow grace, therefore they are like teachers. "Benefiting sentient beings with five actions, the prince's behavior is like a Khenpo." The meaning is, how Khenpos benefit disciples in five ways, similarly, Bodhisattvas also benefit sentient beings in five ways, therefore Bodhisattvas are like Khenpos to all sentient beings. What are the five actions by which Khenpos benefit disciples? Making them renounce, making them receive full ordination, pointing out the faults that should be completely abandoned, gathering them with wealth, and gathering them with the Dharma.

Diligently striving for the sake of sentient beings, and perfecting the accumulations, just as the abbot ordains disciples from household life to homelessness, gives the precepts of a śrāmaṇera, and causes them to be ordained, so too, bodhisattvas diligently strive for the sake of sentient beings, and for those sentient beings whose accumulations of merit and wisdom are not complete, they cause the two accumulations to be completed, therefore they are like an abbot. Accumulating merit and causing liberation, just as the abbot, after the disciple has been ordained, gives the two hundred and fifty precepts, and causes them to be fully ordained, so too, bodhisattvas cause sentient beings who have completed the two accumulations to be completely liberated and to reach the state of nirvāṇa, therefore, bodhisattvas are like an abbot. Causing adverse factors to diminish, just as the abbot shows the disciple what constitutes defeat, transgression, and misdeeds, and prevents and abandons engaging in wrongdoing, so too, bodhisattvas cause the adverse factors to the six pāramitās, which are obstacles to sentient beings attaining liberation and nirvāṇa, to diminish and be abandoned, therefore they are like an abbot. Various worldly perfections, just as the abbot benefits the disciple with robes, begging bowls, and other necessities, with worldly possessions, so too, bodhisattvas cause all sentient beings to attain various worldly perfections such as Indra and Brahmā, therefore they are like an abbot. Causing connection with the non-worldly, just as the abbot benefits the disciple by teaching the Dharma, so too, bodhisattvas cause sentient beings to abide in the perfections that transcend the world, the path of the three vehicles, and nirvāṇa, therefore they are like an abbot. These are two verses on the distinction of repaying kindness; if a bodhisattva benefits sentient beings with the six pāramitās, etc., the sentient beings who have been benefited should repay the kindness to the bodhisattva.
