Having known giving thus, the wise should cultivate it. Regarding this, "thus" means as previously stated, that is, having known that the nature, cause, fruit, karma, etc. of giving are as previously stated, the wise Bodhisattvas cultivate the perfection of giving, which is the meaning. Because of entering without stinginess, regarding this, for the stingy, there is no entering into giving, but the non-stingy enter into giving, therefore they possess the Dharma of non-stinginess. Having six branches, regarding this, the discipline having six branches is the nature of discipline. That is, the discipline having six branches is that the one possessing discipline is restrained by the vows of individual liberation, the rituals are perfect, the conduct and the place of conduct are perfect, even the slightest fault is seen as terrifying, and one learns in the place of proper acceptance. Taking up the peaceful mind, regarding this, taking up the peaceful mind is the cause, the noble ones initially take up the discipline thinking that they should attain Nirvana, therefore it is the cause of the mind. Taking up happy rebirth and dwelling, regarding this, taking up happy rebirth and dwelling is the result, if one possesses discipline, wherever one is born, one takes birth as gods and humans, therefore it is taking up happy rebirth. The word "dwelling" refers to Samadhi, if one possesses discipline, one will not have regret. If there is no regret, the mind is happy. If the mind is happy, the body is happy. If the body is happy, the mind is also happy, if the mind is happy, one obtains one-pointedness of mind, therefore it is taking up dwelling. Dwelling, pacifying, and being without fear, regarding this, as dwelling, as pacifying, as being without fear is the dwelling. Among these, as dwelling is, just as the great earth is the dwelling of all crops, discipline is also the dwelling of all meanings such as the aspects of enlightenment. If one possesses discipline, one eliminates the suffering of desire, etc., therefore it is as pacifying. If one possesses discipline, there is no fear of other lives and no fear of this life, therefore it is as being without fear.

Moreover, the fear of future lives is the fear of the three lower realms. If one is born in the realms of gods and humans in future lives, there is no fear of being born in the lower realms. The fears of this life are also of two kinds: the fear of wrongdoing and the fear of only caring for oneself. If one possesses discipline, no one will speak unpleasant words, so there is no fear of wrongdoing. If one possesses discipline, there will be no beatings or abuse caused by the causes of killing, etc., so there is no fear of only caring for oneself. To possess the accumulation of merit means to take vows, to restrain the arising of sinful and unwholesome dharmas from the three doors of body, speech, and mind, and to increase only virtuous dharmas by restraining in this way, so to possess means to possess the accumulation of merit. Obtaining expression and suchness is: "It exists for those who abide in vows." This shows the entrance, and there are two kinds of entrance: What are they? They are the entrance of classification and the entrance of basis. Among them, if discipline is classified, it enters into three types: the Pratimoksha vows, the vows of meditative concentration, and the vows of no outflows. Among them, taking the Pratimoksha vows through the actions of requesting and beseeching the Khenpo and Acharya is called the discipline of expression. The vows of meditative concentration and the vows of no outflows are called the discipline of suchness. This shows the entrance of classification. "It exists for those who abide in vows." This shows the entrance of basis. Like the discipline mentioned above, it also exists for those who abide in and rely on vows, but others do not have it, that is the meaning. Having understood discipline in this way, Wise people practice it correctly. It means that having understood the nature and causes of discipline as mentioned above, wise Bodhisattvas practice it correctly. "Unpleasant, how to think," etc., this shows the nature of patience. "Unpleasant" refers to showing the patience of not being unpleasant to harm. "How to think" refers to showing the patience of how to think about one's own suffering. "Knowing" refers to showing the patience of truly realizing the Dharma Because compassion abides in the Dharma.

Regarding the ground, compassion and Dharma are the causes of patience. One who lacks compassion cannot endure the harm done by sentient beings, but one who has compassion can endure, therefore compassion is the cause. Abiding in the Dharma also has two aspects: properly taking vows, and entering through 'those seven,' indicating the entry, and 'in those,' indicating the entry of the base. The diligence mentioned earlier is also present in those who have initiated diligence, but not in those who have not initiated diligence, therefore the person who initiates diligence is the basis and support of diligence. 'Those seven' indicates the entry of complete distinction, diligence is divided into seven aspects through examining the three trainings and serving with respect. Among them, the collection of the five consciousnesses from eye consciousness to body consciousness abandons non-virtuous deeds such as killing and engages in virtuous deeds. The collection of the five consciousnesses is regarded as the five diligences, and they are summarized as higher discipline training. On top of that, adding the higher mind training and the higher wisdom training makes seven. This can also be summarized into two: physical diligence and mental diligence. Higher discipline training is physical diligence, and higher wisdom training is mental diligence. Having understood diligence in this way, the wise will practice it correctly. This means that having understood the nature, cause, and result of diligence as described above, the Bodhisattvas will practice accordingly. It is explained how initiating diligence does not mix with sinful, non-virtuous dharmas and enjoys happiness. This is to explain the reason for the sutra that diligence is the antidote to afflictions. The sutra also says that if diligence is initiated, sinful, non-virtuous dharmas will be abandoned. Having abandoned sinful, non-virtuous dharmas, one will not remain mixed with them. If one is not mixed with sinful, non-virtuous dharmas, one can enjoy the bliss of the dhyana of the form realm.
