The ground, where is the burden abandoned, and by whom is the burden abandoned? Among them, where is the burden abandoned? Answer: The burden is abandoned at the time of cessation. By whom is the burden abandoned? Answer: The burden is abandoned by the truth of the path, these two belong to the side of complete purification. Among them, those individuals who have not abandoned suffering and its origin are considered to be carrying the burden, and are called those who possess the burden and the continuum of mind. The two individuals who have attained the truth of cessation and the truth of the path are considered to have abandoned the burden, and are called those who possess the dharma of abandoning the burden and the continuum of mind. Thus, although their functions are different and their continuums of mind are different, there is no name called 'person,' and one cannot point out, 'This is a person carrying the burden,' or 'This is a person who has abandoned the burden.' The dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment also have many places due to the differences in the paths of application, seeing, cultivation, and ultimate, that is, when cultivating the thirty-seven aspects of enlightenment, one cultivates in the place of the path of application, cultivates in the place of the path of seeing, cultivates in the place of the path of cultivation, cultivates in the place of the ultimate path, and so on, there are many places of cultivation. Among them, the path of application refers to the four stages of heat, summit, forbearance, and supreme mundane qualities. At that time, the person who cultivates the aspects of enlightenment is called a person of faith. At the time of the path of seeing, bodhisattvas attain the first ground, or hearers attain the path of stream-entry. At that time, the person who cultivates the thirty-seven aspects of enlightenment is called a person abiding in the path of seeing. According to the Great Vehicle, the second ground and above is the path of cultivation, and according to the Small Vehicle, attaining the fruit of stream-entry and above is called abiding in the path of cultivation. At that time, when cultivating the aspects of enlightenment, one is called a person abiding in the path of cultivation. According to the Hearer Vehicle, attaining the fruit of arhat, and according to the Great Vehicle, those who attain complete enlightenment are called the ultimate path. At that time, the person who abides in the aspects of enlightenment

It is called a non-learner person. Similarly, when distinguishing these differences, without naming "Pudgala," it is impossible to show the existence of these differences and the difference in lineage. Therefore, it is necessary to explain by naming "Pudgala." Therefore, even though Pudgala is not substantially existent, the Blessed One explained and revealed the word "Pudgala" in these sutras for these purposes. Otherwise, Pudgala itself is not substantially existent, and the Pudgalas named by the Blessed One would become meaningless and unnecessary. If those who assert the existence of Pudgala say this: In order for sentient beings to generate the ego-grasping that has not arisen in the mind-stream, the Blessed One spoke of Pudgala. Then, this is also proven to be unreasonable. Because it is also meaningless for generating ego-grasping. Therefore, the Blessed One's saying "Pudgala exists" is not for the sake of generating ego-grasping. This is the conclusion. Why is it unreasonable to say so? Because ego-grasping is not to be generated, but has already arisen. Therefore, it is also unreasonable to say that Pudgala exists in order to generate ego-grasping in the minds of sentient beings. Why? Because ego-grasping has already arisen in the mind-stream since beginningless samsara, so it is unreasonable to say that it is for the sake of generating it. If those who assert the existence of Pudgala say this: Even if ego-grasping has arisen in the minds of sentient beings, sentient beings should not become accustomed to this ego-grasping. Therefore, in order to make sentient beings accustomed to ego-grasping, the Blessed One spoke of Pudgala. Then, this is also proven to be unreasonable. It is unreasonable to say that Pudgala exists in order to become accustomed to ego-grasping. How to prove it is unreasonable? Because ego-grasping has been accustomed to since beginningless time.
