Because (fire and wood) are not of the same nature. If they were of the same nature, then just as touching fire would cause burning, touching wood would also cause burning, which would be a fault. Also, just as touching wood does not cause burning, if fire and wood were of the same nature, touching fire would also not cause burning, which would be a fault. Similarly, a person as an existent cannot be said to be the same as the aggregates. Nor can it be said that they are different, so it is said. Furthermore, regarding the statement "One should say this," when those who assert a self say that, one should reply in this way, that is its meaning. The meaning of the statement "The characteristic of not saying that fire and burning are the same is seen in the world, and is not allowed in the scriptures, because they are two different objects" is: It is unreasonable for you to say that fire and wood are not one, nor are they different. Why? Because fire and wood are different. Nor is it that they are not different. How are they different? Because their characteristics are different, they are different, and because worldly people can see them, they are different, and the scriptures do not say that fire and wood are one, but say that they are different, so because they are different, it cannot be said that they are one. Moreover, from the perspective of direct perception, they are also different, because they are two different objects, so they are also different, that is its meaning. The meaning of the statement "It is not permissible to say that they are one and different" is: It is not permissible to say that fire and wood are one, because they would become different, that is its meaning. To explain the meaning of different characteristics, the term "fire" refers to the fire element. "Burning" refers to the remaining aggregates. Because their characteristics are different, fire and wood are different. Thus, from the perspective of the four great elements, the term "fire" refers to the fire element, which is the characteristic of heat. The term "wood" refers to the three elements of earth, water, and wind, among which the characteristic of solidity is the earth element, the characteristic of cohesion is the water element, and the characteristic of motion is the wind element. Thus, fire and wood have different characteristics, so it is said that fire and wood are different. To explain that the world can see that fire and wood are different, it is said: In the world, one can see burning wood etc. without fire, and one can see fire without burning, so it is proven that they are different. That is to say, in the world, fire and wood are different

It is not seen as one. Thus, sometimes only wood is seen without fire, that is, when wood and fire are connected. Sometimes only fire is seen without wood. The meaning of fire arising without wood will be discussed later. Likewise, worldly people also see fire and wood as different, so the two are not one, and it is established as different. The scriptures also do not say that fire and wood are one, so they are shown to be different. In the scriptures, the Blessed One also did not say that fire and what is burned cannot be spoken of anywhere, as it is said. In the Abhidharma-kosa, the Blessed One also did not say that fire and wood are one, nor that they cannot be said to be different, but rather taught that wood and fire are indeed different. How so? Fire is the nature of heat, earth is the nature of hardness, water is the nature of moisture, and wind is the nature of movement, as taught. Therefore, when saying "this is not reasonable," it means that, according to the reasons mentioned above, fire and the two are not reasonably of the same nature. How is it known that "there is fire without burning"? That is, as previously said, there is fire in the world even without wood, meaning "how is it known that there is fire without wood?" In response, the Fundamental Wisdom says "observe closely," which means that fire is seen in the world even without wood. To explain its meaning, it says, "Just as the wind blows fire, it goes as if burning even in the distance." That is, sometimes when grasslands or forests are burned by fire, the wind cuts off the flames, and the wind blows the flames. When the flames travel far away, it is seen that only fire burns without wood. Therefore, it is seen that only fire exists without wood. Therefore, saying "movement is wind," etc., if the Pudgalavada proponents say that the flames are carried by the wind, and like wood, the cause of the fire burning is the wind, to show that this is also unreasonable, therefore, fire and wind
