It is not like that. If someone asks, how does it appear that clinging to a person is inverted? The answer is: because it is a completely afflicted one. Clinging to a person and to self is the nature of complete affliction, therefore it appears as inverted. There are six kinds of complete affliction, namely, desire, anger, pride, ignorance, view, and doubt. Among these six, which complete affliction is the nature of clinging to a person? Therefore, it is said: This complete affliction is the characteristic of the affliction of the view of the aggregates of decay, that is, 'I' and 'mine.' Among the six complete afflictions, this complete affliction of viewing 'I' and 'mine' is the characteristic of the complete affliction of the view of the aggregates of decay. If those who speak of a person think that clinging to a person is the characteristic of complete affliction, but not the characteristic of inversion. In order to show the unreasonableness, it is said: What is not inverted should not become completely afflicted. Whatever is completely afflicted is inverted, for example, clinging to permanence and purity. Whatever is without complete affliction is without inversion, for example, clinging to impermanence and impurity. Therefore, if clinging to self and person becomes the nature of complete affliction, then it should not become non-inverted, it will inevitably become inverted. If someone asks: How is it known that it is an affliction? This is the question of those who speak of self and person, that is, how does the view of the aggregates of decay itself appear as the nature of complete affliction? The answer is: In the Root Wisdom Treatise, it is said: 'The cause of affliction.' In order to explain the meaning of the Root Wisdom Treatise, it is said: Thus, from this cause arise afflictions such as desire. Thus, from clinging to 'I' and self, afflictions such as desire, hatred, and delusion arise. Therefore, clinging to self becomes the cause of affliction, so it is the view of the aggregates of decay.
