If someone says, "I (the person) am imperishable and eternally existent," then one should ask and answer in this way. How to answer? Therefore, one should say, "The essence of consciousness is not seen because it is constantly changing and arising in every moment." Just as the flame of a lamp burns the wick, the continuation of the flame is passing away and disintegrating in every moment, and the burning of the wick is also changing in every moment. Therefore, the flame is disintegrating, but the wick is not disintegrating, and its existence in the external world cannot be seen. Similarly, if consciousness is momentary, then its basis, the faculties, also change in a moment. If someone says, "If all conditioned phenomena are momentary, why are they not momentary like a lamp flame, etc.?" If those who do not accept momentariness ask this: "If the lamp flame is momentary, are other conditioned phenomena such as a pot also momentary? Why are other conditioned phenomena such as a pot not known and accepted in the world as momentary, just as the lamp flame is known to be momentary?" One should answer in this way. How to answer? Therefore, one should say, "Because of the inverted nature, similar continuities arise constantly, so they are not recognized as momentary." Although these things such as a pot are impermanent, due to the arising of inverted perceptions such as the illusion of purity in impurity, the illusion of permanence in impermanence, and as a cause, even if they are not momentary, the illusion of permanence arises. How does it arise? Because they arise in a continuum of moments, the later moments are exactly the same as the previous moments in terms of color and shape, and they arise continuously. Therefore, they are not recognized as momentary. To clearly show this meaning, it is said that even though there is a change from one to another, it is still mistakenly thought to be the same. Just as all conditioned phenomena arise in a continuum of moments, the previous moments cease, and the later moments arise differently. Even though there is a difference of change from one to another, still

If the subsequent moments arise exactly like the previous one, then it should be recognized that it is not momentary. Because what I saw before, I also see later, and a reversed thought arises in my mind. If this is the case, then the reversal of clinging to permanence in impermanence would also not exist. If you say so, assuming that conditioned things are not momentary, and subsequent moments arise exactly like the previous one, therefore, even if it is not the previous moment, the reversed thought of seeing the previous moment arises, which is not established. If things exist permanently, then when seeing them later, one also sees the previous moment. In this way, he sees things without reversal, so the reversal of clinging to impurity as purity, and clinging to impermanence as permanence, would not exist. If these do not exist, then all afflictions would also not exist, where would there be purification? From this question, it can also be proved that all conditioned things are momentary. If sentient beings have no reversal, then because there is no reversal, the arising of all afflictions such as desire would also not exist. Why? Because all afflictions arise from reversal. In this way, if there are no afflictions, sentient beings would naturally be liberated, and ultimately where would there be purification and nirvana? Nirvana would also not exist. The fact is not like this, there were afflictions before, and later there is nirvana. In this way, from the perspective of asking a question without an answer, it can also be proved that all conditioned things are momentary. Because the selflessness of the person is established. To distinguish the selflessness of the person, there are twelve verses. The four sutras show the meaning that all conditioned things are impermanent, which is explained in two ways. Which two? Showing the meaning of non-existence is also the meaning of impermanence, and showing the meaning of momentary destruction is also the meaning of impermanence. Now, the meaning of the sutra called 'All Dharmas are Selfless' will be explained extensively, and through twelve verses establishing the selflessness of all dharmas, the selflessness of the person will also be established. The above is shown from the perspective of momentariness.
