Thus the practitioner. Again, he asks thus: "Having ridden, do you wish to go?" If those who do not desire impermanence, who do not desire a moment, then it should be asked again thus: "You who do not desire a moment, the horse not having been ridden, the horse is there, never having gone to another place, the one who rides that horse, do you wish to go to another place?" If the horse of the rider has not gone to another place, the one who rides that horse will certainly not go to another place. If a person goes to another place, certainly the horse of the rider will also go to another place. Do you not desire it thus?" Having asked thus, if those who do not desire a moment say thus: "The person does not ride the horse, the person goes to another place. I do not desire the horse not to go to another place. As the person goes, the horse should also go to another place." If they say thus, it should be asked again thus: "How to ask?" Therefore, having stayed with the eyes and so on, does consciousness constantly go? It should not be said thus. For example, as the one who rides the horse goes to another place, the horse also goes to another place. Thus, if the consciousness residing in the eyes and other faculties, you desire a moment, then the five faculties of the eyes and so on where it resides should also not be non-momentary. If the eyes and other faculties remain permanent, the consciousness residing there should not constantly go with the continuity of a moment. If the eyes and other faculties are permanent, the consciousness residing there should also be permanent. If consciousness is impermanent, the faculties should also be impermanent. If they say thus: "The lamp stays on the wick, although it constantly goes, the wick remains," it should be asked again thus. If those who do not desire a moment say thus: "The lamp stays on the lamp wick and burns. The lamp itself constantly goes and perishes, but that wick does not perish and remains permanent. Having seen thus, thus consciousness stays in the eyes and other faculties. Consciousness is of the nature of perishing and constantly going."
