It is also the kind in which fire appears. Others refute: The four great elements gradually arise in an instant. Then, the kinds in which color, smell, taste, and touch arise in an instant. It is not established that way, but the three, earth, water, and wind, arise in an instant. Then, the four things, such as color, arise in an instant. After that, first fire arises in an instant. When refuting in this way, in order to easily add verses, color, etc., have been said before. Fire is said later. Because it is inconvenient to add verses, in order to easily add verses, the four things, such as color, arise in an instant before. Fire is said to arise in an instant later. Some say that sound is constant, not impermanent. If sound arises and ceases in each instant, then the sound of bells, etc., would stop as soon as it arises, and there would be no kind of sound arising later. Later, it also appears that sound arises, so sound is constant. When saying this, in order to show that it is unreasonable, the sound gradually becomes smaller. Then that sound also stops and becomes smaller and smaller. It is said in order to be able to observe it becoming smaller and smaller. The sound of bells, etc., arising and sounding at other times should also be recognized in an instant. Why? Because the sound of the bell initially makes a loud sound. After that, the loud sound stops, and a smaller sound is made. Then that sound also stops, and after becoming smaller and smaller, it becomes silent. Therefore, it should be recognized that it changes in an instant. In order to show that there is a fault if sound is constant, if it is not a momentary change, then it will not be observed that it becomes smaller and smaller in each instant. If the sound of bells, etc., is not a momentary change, but is constant, then that sound will not become smaller and smaller, and finally become silent. It will become the fault of making sound at all times. The form of the Dharma realm is also established as momentary because it follows the mind, as previously stated. The Dharma realm refers to non-manifesting form, which is liberation.

These are the three types of vows: the vow of discipline, the vow of meditation, and the vow of non-outflow. These three vows follow the mind and arise from the cause of the mind, because the mind is momentary. The non-revealing form that is its result also becomes momentary. Any dharma that arises from the mind is momentary, which has already been established. From the question, it can also be established that all conditioned phenomena are momentary. To this question, non-Buddhists and worldly people do not consider conditioned phenomena to be impermanent, but rather momentary. If asked how they consider it impermanent, they would say that because internal conditioned phenomena eventually die, and pots and so on eventually break, they are impermanent. They consider it impermanent in this way, but do not consider it momentary. For those who do not consider it momentary, if asked why they do not consider it momentary, then the reason without an answer cannot establish that conditioned phenomena are momentary. If asked how, how should one ask those who consider conditioned phenomena to be impermanent but do not consider them momentary? The meaning is that one should ask them this way. You consider it impermanent, why do you not consider conditioned phenomena to be momentary? For those who consider it impermanent but do not consider it momentary, one should ask this: how should one ask? You say that conditioned phenomena are impermanent, if you consider it impermanent, why do you not consider conditioned phenomena to be momentary? If they say that they do not recognize that each moment is impermanent, then, after asking that, those who do not consider it momentary think that conditioned phenomena eventually die, and seeing pots and so on break, therefore they do not consider it impermanent. Similarly, if we see that conditioned phenomena are destroyed in each moment, then we would consider it momentary. But because we have not recognized or seen that each moment is impermanent and destroyed, we do not consider it momentary. To them, one should ask this, to them who say that because they have not seen each moment being destroyed, they do not consider it momentary, one should also ask this.
