Summarizing the seven into five, explaining what are the limbs of enlightenment and how they become limbs of enlightenment. Among them, mindfulness is the limb of abiding. Discriminating awareness is the limb of self-nature. Third, diligence is the limb of arising. Fourth, joy is the limb of rejoicing. Tranquility, concentration, and equanimity are the three limbs of non-affliction. So, what are the limbs of enlightenment? The seven limbs of enlightenment, namely discriminating awareness, are the limbs of enlightenment. How do they become limbs? Mindfulness becomes the limb of abiding, until equanimity and so on become the limbs of non-affliction. Because everything relies on and merges into it. Mindfulness is the limb of abiding. How does it become the limb of abiding? Because all the qualities such as discriminating awareness rely on mindfulness and arise from mindfulness. Because enlightenment itself is its nature. Discriminating awareness is the limb of self-nature. Enlightenment is also called the unerring discernment and knowledge of the individual and general characteristics of all phenomena. The nature of enlightenment is also the nature of discriminating awareness, therefore discriminating awareness is classified as the limb of self-nature. Because it enables the attainment of ultimate liberation. Diligence is the limb of arising. Diligence goes to the place where one should go, and does not stop midway until one reaches it. For the happiness of the mind, joy is the limb of rejoicing. Through seeing the reality of Dharma, joy can generate a special joy in the mind. Tranquility, concentration, and equanimity, etc., these three dharmas are the limbs of non-affliction. How do they become the limbs of non-affliction? That is, what makes one free from affliction, abiding in what makes one free from affliction, and what is free from affliction. Among them, what makes one free from affliction? That is tranquility.

It makes the ground (referring to the stages of practice) free from afflictions. If body and mind become workable, then it eliminates the bad circumstances of body and mind being unworkable, as well as the behaviors of bad circumstances of afflictions and cognitive obscurations. From where does one abide to make it free from afflictions? Abiding in samadhi makes it free from afflictions, because when abiding in samadhi, it eliminates the near afflictions of excitement and dullness. What is it that is without afflictions? It is equanimity, because afflictions and equanimity are contradictory. Therefore, when abiding in equanimity, there is no chance of afflictions arising at all. Regarding the matter of "the division of the limbs of the path into two verses," what is the connection between explaining the eightfold noble path after the seven limbs of enlightenment? In the first ground (first bhumi), in the path of seeing, by cultivating the seven limbs of enlightenment, one abandons the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing. By cultivating it, one abandons the afflictions and cognitive obscurations to be abandoned by cultivation. From the second ground (second bhumi) upwards to the tenth ground (tenth bhumi) downwards, in the path of cultivation, cultivating the eightfold noble path is therefore related to explaining the limbs of the eightfold noble path after the seven limbs of enlightenment. Among them, the eight limbs of the path are: right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Among them, in the path of seeing, with the Dharma-discriminating wisdom enlightenment limb, one understands the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena, and focusing on that, one cultivates, and that is right view. Therefore, in the Sutra of the Holy Inexhaustible Intellect, it is also said: "What is right view? It is that which transcends the mundane world, is not taken from the view of self, is not from life," and so on. With right view as the cause, the causes arising from the three realms, namely, the higher discipline, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom, are contemplated and desired. If one abandons the contemplation of hatred, then the contemplation without desire and hatred is called right thought. Therefore, in the Sutra of the Holy Inexhaustible Intellect, it is also said:
