It is the basis of Dharma, the nature of all afflictions arising from dependent origination, while the perfected nature is not the basis of Dharma of the imputed nature. Not arising from dependent origination, it is a pure Dharma, therefore it is not the same in nature as the dependent nature. Since the imputed nature and the dependent nature are not different from the perfected nature, it is called non-other. How to understand it? In the nature of the dependent nature, the absence of the imputed nature of grasping and being grasped is simply called the nature of the perfected nature. Apart from that, there is no separate nature of the perfected nature. For example, the characteristics of conditioned and unconditioned phenomena are like impermanence, etc. If conditioned phenomena and impermanence are one, then like impermanence, conditioned phenomena would always be peaceful and would lead to the fault of non-manifestation. If conditioned phenomena and impermanence are different, then like in another impermanence, there is no impermanence in conditioned phenomena, there would be no impermanence in conditioned phenomena. This is the second point of the meaning of non-duality. The so-called non-arising and non-ceasing, the perfected nature is not produced by the causes and conditions of karma and afflictions, so it does not arise. For the Dharma that does not arise, there is no cessation, so it does not cease, which is the meaning of the nature of unconditioned phenomena. This is the third point of the meaning of non-duality. Not decreasing and not increasing, the so-called no increase or decrease, whether in the time of samsara or in the time of nirvana, the perfected nature does not decrease, nor does it increase, just like space. For example, when the clouds etc. existing in space decrease, the space does not decrease; when clouds etc. that did not exist before appear in space, the space does not newly appear. Similarly, when practicing the noble path, the afflictions of the Dharma of samsara decrease, but emptiness does not decrease; the qualities of purification, the qualities of enlightenment increase, but emptiness does not increase. This is the fourth point of the meaning of non-duality. The so-called no purity, no becoming pure, the ultimate truth is emptiness. It is like space, gold, the water element, and crystal, etc., pure in nature.

Just as it is pure by its very nature of emptiness, just as it is pure by its very nature of space, it cannot be purified by washing it with water, etc. Similarly, the nature of emptiness cannot be purified of defilements, hence it is called without complete purification. Although defilements cannot be removed from its nature, just as sudden clouds are removed from the sky, and sudden stones are removed from gold, it is not that the defilements of the afflictive obscurations and the obscurations of knowledge in emptiness cannot be removed. Rather, they must be removed and purified, hence it is also called completely purified. This is the fifth meaning of non-duality. That refers to the meaning of the sign, the five signs of non-duality, which means that it is the sign of ultimate truth. In order to refute the perverted view of self-grasping, verses are spoken. The view of the aggregates, which grasps the five aggregates with the characteristics of multiplicity and impermanence as self, is called self-grasping. Because it grasps what is without self and without what belongs to self as self and what belongs to self, it is a perversion. In order to show that that perversion is a fault and must be abandoned, the meaning of composing the verses. When explaining the ultimate truth, it is not the time to explain the perverted view of self-grasping. If asked, what is the connection between self-grasping and what is being explained here? The answer is that the so-called ultimate truth refers to the emptiness of the selflessness of sentient beings and the emptiness of the selflessness of phenomena. And self-grasping is contrary to the emptiness of the selflessness of sentient beings. Therefore, to the extent that there is self-grasping, to that extent one does not understand the selflessness of sentient beings. Therefore, in order for sentient beings to understand selflessness, it is taught that one should abandon self-grasping. And in order to establish the meaning of the selflessness of sentient beings, the connection of explaining self-grasping here. The tirthikas' self-grasping either thinks that the self exists, and the view of the aggregates that thinks in this way is itself the nature of the self. Or they think that the place of the view of the aggregates, that is, the five aggregates of grasping, is the nature of the self. Or they think that there is something called self that exists separately from those two. But all three of those ideas are unreasonable, therefore sentient beings are without self. Therefore, the very nature of self-grasping is self.
