Being in the (Bodhisattva) ground enables sentient beings to turn away from non-virtue, because they are placed in virtue and so forth, and can be tamed by admonishments. Why is that? Because one who is not tamed oneself cannot tame others. Having gone on for a very long time accomplishes lineage and so forth, which is explained as: having attained the eleventh ground, one can accomplish sentient beings being born into the Tathagata lineage, accomplish prophecies, and accomplish omniscient wisdom, but without having attained the ground of long practice, one cannot accomplish it, that is the meaning. The verse on the distinction of accomplishment, which is explained as: the gods and humans of the desire realm only accomplish the five desirable qualities, the gods of the form and formless realms only accomplish the bliss of meditative absorption, the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas only accomplish the one-sided Nirvana of peace for their own benefit, and from among them, the accomplishment of the Bodhi sattva is superior, to show this meaning, the verse is composed, that is the meaning. The fear of desire-birth is great. This is explained as: sentient beings born in the desire realm constantly enjoy the qualities of the five desires such as form, and because of its cause and condition, in this life also bondage and killing and other physical sufferings and mental discomfort and other mental sufferings arise, and because of this cause, in future lives they will also be reborn in the three lower realms, therefore it is possessed of great fear, that is the meaning. The happiness of existence is unstable and inverted. This is explained as: the word 'existence' refers to the form and formless realms, and refers to the meditative absorption that is attached to the bliss of meditative absorption in the form and formless realms. Happiness is both unstable and inverted, that is the meaning. Why is that? Because there is impermanence and there is ultimate suffering. Among them, there is impermanence because it cannot accompany happiness, and after death one will be reborn in the lower realms and so forth, thus there is impermanence and therefore it is unstable. In those places there is neither happiness nor suffering, but it is pervaded by the suffering of conditioning, and there is ultimate suffering. They do not see that it is suffering.
