If we, like generating fire by rubbing wood, exert diligence and effort, and attain our own fruit in three or seven lifetimes, then the Bodhisattva, in order to eliminate the bonds of karma, afflictions, and harm that exist in the continuums of both oneself and others, should not be lazy. The Hearers (Śrāvakas) train for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, and this is the meaning of the reason for initiating diligence. The three bonds are stated in the Abhidharmakośa: 'The deeds of uninterrupted karma, unbearable afflictions, evil destinies, the inaudible and the non-conceptual, these obscurations are considered as three.' Among these, the five deeds of immediate retribution are the bonds of karma. Great attachment and hatred are the bonds of affliction. The three evil destinies, the inaudible of Uttarakuru, and the gods born in the realm of non-perception are the bonds of life. The chapter on especially cultivating the generation of Bodhicitta is complete. If asked, why is the chapter on practice explained after the chapter on generating Bodhicitta? It was mentioned earlier: 'The burden of beings is carried on the head, it is not beautiful for the supreme beings to walk slowly, bound by many kinds of bonds of oneself and others, it is appropriate to exert diligence a hundredfold.' If there is no practice of the pāramitās, then merely generating Bodhicitta will not attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Therefore, after generating Bodhicitta, one must begin to practice without hesitation. Therefore, the practice of a Bodhisattva is a great place, because it abides in the mind of enlightenment, as will be explained below. Therefore, one should rely on generating the unsurpassed Bodhicitta and enter into practice. One must generate the mind and abide in practice in order to accomplish the benefit of oneself and others. If there is no practice, it cannot be accomplished, so explaining the chapter on practice after generating Bodhicitta is relevant. Alternatively, it was said earlier that after generating Bodhicitta while abiding in the lineage, one should train in the Bodhisattva's training. Now, it shows the difference in the object of training, with what aim one trains in the Bodhisattva's training. There are also five aspects to the difference in the object of training: the benefit of oneself and others, and merely its benefit, power, and complete

also cause to ripen, and unsurpassed Bodhi. These five also surpass the Hearers and others. How do they surpass? The training of the Hearers is focused on their own benefit, and on the true meaning of the selflessness of the individual. They can only perform miracles in one world of the three thousand great thousand worlds, so their power is small. They only cause themselves to ripen completely, and only take the Bodhi of the Hearers. Bodhisattvas are the opposite of this. They focus on the benefit of themselves and others, and on the true meaning of the selflessness of both individuals and phenomena. Their miracles can enter all the worlds in the ten directions. They cause both themselves and sentient beings to ripen, and they surpass by taking unsurpassed Bodhi. Among these, the benefit of themselves and others, the true meaning, the power, and the causing to ripen, the four are focused on as the nature of the cause, while unsurpassed Bodhi is focused on as the nature of the result. Therefore, after generating the mind of enlightenment, it is related to explaining the stages of practice. Furthermore, or before, having generated the mind of enlightenment by abiding in the lineage, one should train in the training of the Bodhisattvas. The training of the Bodhisattvas, where should one train, how should one train, and with what should one train, there are three aspects. Having said this, now I will explain where one should train. Where should one train? One should train in the five aspects, such as the benefit of oneself and others. These five aspects can only be accomplished by those who abide in practice. To show that those who do not practice cannot accomplish them, therefore, after generating the mind of enlightenment, it is related to explaining the stages of practice. The place, the action, the result, the arising, are the great nature, it is said that it is the practice of the Victorious Sons and others. The Victorious One refers to the non-conceptual wisdom and the Dharmadhatu. Those who are born from the realization of these two are called the Sons of the Victorious One, which actually refers to the Bodhisattvas. The practice of the Bodhisattvas is considered to be the nature of the three trainings. What are they? They are the nature of the great place, the nature of the great action, and the nature of the great result.
