Why? It is said that arising from the first bhumi and entering the second bhumi also occurs because the nature of the first bhumi, the perfection of generosity, is complete. And its merits, such as seeing the faces of a hundred Buddhas, etc., should also be remembered in how the characteristics of the bhumi are established in conventional truth. Those characteristics of the bhumi are also only mind, only mental constructs. Knowing this and knowing that it is only mind should also be abandoned. Abiding in non-conceptual wisdom, one will enter the second bhumi from the first bhumi. This is the meaning. The nature of the great simile has six verses. Above, the causes, nature, qualities, etc. of the symbolic bodhicitta and the ultimate bodhicitta have been explained. Now, with six verses combined with the qualities of the simile, the greatness of the nature and the greatness of the qualities of the two types of bodhicitta are shown. This is the meaning. Arising like the earth, it is said that from the time of ordinary beings, that is, from the time below the most excellent Dharma position of the stage of application, it should be known that arising is like the earth. For example, just as relying on the great earth, roots, trees, medicines, and various kinds of grains can grow, so too, relying on the initial bodhicitta, thoughts and actions, etc., as well as the perfections and the aspects of enlightenment, as well as the power of the Buddha's Dharma, fearlessness, and the unshared qualities, etc., will arise. Therefore, the initial bodhicitta should be recognized as being like the earth. Furthermore, like the best of gold, it is said that the other word tends towards intention, and the bodhicitta with intention should be known to be like the best of gold. Why? For example, the best of gold, even if tested in many ways, such as burning, cutting, and hammering, its color and nature will not change. Similarly, the bodhicitta with the intention of benefiting and bringing happiness to sentient beings will never change. Therefore, the bodhicitta with intention is like the best of gold. Like the waxing moon, it is said that the bodhicitta with action is like the waxing moon.

Like the waxing moon, for example, from the first to the fifteenth day of the lunar month, the moon gradually increases in size. Similarly, if one offers with the power of skillful means that combines with and utilizes the Prajnaparamita, then the accumulations of merit and wisdom, as well as the Prajnaparamita, will increase and expand. Therefore, the Bodhicitta that possesses skillful means is like the waxing moon. Furthermore, "It should be known as like fire," meaning that the word "other" refers to aspiring to higher aspirations. The Bodhicitta that possesses higher aspirations should be known as like fire. Why? For example, the more firewood added to a fire, the greater the flames and light become. Similarly, the so-called higher aspiration refers to thinking that if one dwells in the warmth stage of practice with faith and desire, one should attain the higher peak stage, and if one dwells in the ten Bhumis, one should attain Buddhahood. Because this mind manifests the superior and extraordinary qualities, therefore, the Bodhicitta that possesses higher aspiration should be known as like fire. It should be known as like a treasure, meaning that the mind that possesses the Dana Paramita should be known as like a great treasure. The Sutra says that there are four types of great treasures: conch, lotus, great lotus, and so on. Taking provisions from these treasures and giving them to sentient beings satisfies them. No matter how many provisions are taken, the treasure will not be exhausted. Similarly, with the Dana Paramita, Bodhisattvas satisfy limitless sentient beings with Dharma and material possessions. The Bodhisattva's giving will not be exhausted even in the realm of Nirvana without remainder. Therefore, generating the mind that possesses the Dana Paramita is like a great treasure. Furthermore, "Like a source of jewels," meaning that the word "other" refers to aspiring to the Sila Paramita. The Bodhicitta that possesses the Sila Paramita is like a source of jewels. For example, from the source that produces various kinds of jewels, countless jewels are produced.
