Samadhi knows that emptiness is the truth of cessation, that is, it is free from all characteristics such as form and sound. Therefore, it is also said in the Abhidharma Samuccaya: 'How should the nature of the truth of cessation be known?' Answer: It should be known where it ceases, by what it ceases, and how it ceases. Where does it cease? Answer: It ceases as such. By what does it cease? Answer: It ceases by the truth of the path. What ceases? Answer: Discrimination and other afflictions cease.' It is also said: 'The unreal imputation, that is by absence of longing.' To this sentence, it should be added: 'The unreal imputation is the other-dependent nature, which is focused on and known by the samadhi of absence of longing.' How to focus? The other-dependent nature is the basis of the seeds of the two obscurations of affliction and knowledge, and is the cause of various sufferings such as birth and old age, so it is not a place to be longed for, and thus it is focused on. 'The sons of the Victorious One, with all the various aspects of enlightenment, together with the path of seeing, are always thought to be attained.' Regarding this sentence, when the first ground is obtained, the eight tolerances and eight wisdoms, which are the nature of the path of seeing, arise in sixteen moments, so in this way, simultaneously, at one time, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, such as mindfulness, are also known at one time, and it should be known that they are attained at one time, which is the meaning of this. Now, from the following five verses, the great self and great rarity of the Bodhisattvas who have arisen on the first ground of the path of seeing are shown, therefore it is said: 'No self, suffering, only arises, sentient beings, only fabricated, only thought of.' etc. The word 'sentient beings' refers to all the dharmas of the three realms. 'Only thought of as fabricated' means that it is only mind and mental factors, and it is understood by wisdom that there is no self, which is the meaning of this. When it is understood in this way, all the dharmas of the three realms are selfless in the reality of the person, and selfless in the reality of the dharma, but it is due to ignorance.

From what is called "Ground of Formation," it is to be understood that due to the cause of birth, aging, death, and a great mass of suffering will arise. It means to abandon views of meaningless self-nature and rely on great meaningful views. It means that if one understands this way, then the Bodhisattva also abandons views of meaningless self-nature and also abides in great views. Among them, views that make sentient beings untamed and destructive are called meaningless. The word "self-nature" refers to the apprehended and the apprehender. The cause of the apprehended and apprehender of views is the view of the perishable collection. A Bodhisattva who has attained the first ground, because they have abandoned the cause of the apprehended and apprehender of the view of the perishable collection, and the evil views that make beings untamed, is called having abandoned the view of meaningless self-nature. At the time of attaining the first ground, because they have attained the view of knowing the equality of self and others, it is called a great view, because seeing in this way benefits limitless sentient beings, it is called a great view, and at that time, abiding in such a view, it is abiding in a great view, and this is something to be amazed at in the world. Although there is no view of self, yet that is seen as self. It means that at the time of attaining the first ground, it can also be said to have a view of self, and it can also be said to have no view of self. Why is it said to have no view of self? Because at the time of attaining the first ground, the view of the perishable collection is abandoned, so it can also be said to have no view of self. Why is it said to have a view of self? Because whatever is self, sentient beings are also like that, seeing the equality of self and sentient beings in this way, it is called having a view of self. Although there is no suffering, yet there is extreme suffering. It means that a Bodhisattva who has attained the first ground can also be said to have no suffering, and can also be said to have extreme suffering. Why is it said to have no suffering? Because they have abandoned the three and eight sufferings, etc., that exist in their own continuum, so it is called having no suffering. Therefore, in the first ground of the Ten Grounds Sutra, it is also said: Bodhisattvas who have entered the first ground have transcended the five fears.
