The meaning is to attain the wisdom that transcends the world, is unsurpassed, immaculate, and non-conceptual. In this context, because both the apprehended and the apprehender are abandoned, it is liberation from the two apprehensions. Because this wisdom is not present in worldly beings and has not become the realm of worldly conduct, it is called transcendent. There is no wisdom more excellent than this wisdom, as it surpasses the wisdom of hearers and solitary realizers, hence it is called unsurpassed. Because it is free from the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, it is called immaculate. Because it is free from the conceptualization of the apprehended and the apprehender, it is called non-conceptual. Therefore, it is said to be free from impurity because it is without impurity. In this regard, considering the wisdom of the path of seeing, the sutra also states: 'Without dust and free from dust, the Dharma eye is completely pure in the Dharma.' Because the dust of the apprehended and the apprehender is abandoned, it is without dust. Because the impurity of the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing is abandoned, it is called free from dust. Alternatively, in the stage of forbearance, it is without dust, because forbearance causes all afflictions to be abandoned. In the stage of wisdom, it is called immaculate, because it arises in the nature of liberation. That is the transformation of its abode, and it is considered to be the first ground. Regarding this, because the path of seeing arises after obtaining the first ground, that Bodhisattva abandons the apprehended and the apprehender, and also abandons the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, which is said to be the transformation of the abode of the Alaya-consciousness of that Bodhisattva. The transformation of the abode of the Alaya-consciousness itself is also considered to be the first ground. How long does it take to attain the transformation of the abode of the Alaya-consciousness? Therefore, it is said: 'That is through countless eons, it becomes extremely pure.' Here it says that that is the transformation of the abode of the Alaya-consciousness, the nature of the first ground, that is, in the three great countless eons, by practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva for one great countless eon, one attains the nature of extreme purity, which is the first ground, the Joyful Ground. That is its meaning. The equality of the sphere of reality, then, after fully realizing it.

Furthermore, when a Bodhisattva who has attained the first bhumi realizes the suchness of the dharmadhatu, which is the same for both ordinary beings and noble beings, without any difference, as being of one taste, that is the meaning. By realizing the equality of the dharmadhatu, one will also realize the five aspects of equality, that is the meaning. At that time, towards all sentient beings, one obtains a mind that is equal to oneself. As it is said, at the time of the first bhumi, because one has obtained the five aspects of equality, one also obtains a mind that is equal to all sentient beings and oneself, realizing that what I am, sentient beings are also that, and what sentient beings are, I am also that. What are the five aspects of equality? Therefore it is said: Self, purpose, and the meaning of suffering, actions and expectations are absent. Thus, for sentient beings, the sons of the conquerors have equal minds with others. As it is said, the five aspects of equality are: equality of no-self, equality of suffering, equality of purpose and action, equality of no expectation of return from sentient beings, and the sons of the conquerors having equal minds with other sentient beings. Because one realizes the sameness of the dharma of no-self, one always obtains a mind of equality between oneself and sentient beings, which are the five aspects of equality. The term "no-self" refers to the absence of inherent existence of persons and phenomena, referring to the dharmadhatu. Since all phenomena are of the nature of the dharmadhatu, one realizes that the dharmas are the same. After realizing the dharmadhatu in the first bhumi, one will realize that one has obtained the five aspects of equality. By realizing that one has obtained the five aspects of equality, one will also obtain equality of mind between oneself and sentient beings at that time, that is the meaning. The absence of self in oneself and others, and the absence of self in the continuum of oneself and others, means that just as there is no self in my aggregates of appropriation, there is also no self in the aggregates of appropriation of sentient beings. Since there is no difference in no-self, one realizes that they are similar in the characteristic of no-self, which is called realizing the equality of no-self. Because one realizes that there is no difference in suffering, there is equality in suffering. As it is said, just as the five aggregates of appropriation of my eye are of the nature of suffering, so are the aggregates of appropriation of other sentient beings.
