Regarding the phrase "Is it for the sake of grasping?", what is the mind of hope? Even if one enters (meditation) in order to attain samadhi oneself, or if not for that, but for the sake of any other fruit, one should think of entering in order to hear these, or meditate while thinking about how to attain (accomplishment) through these fruits, this is called hope-oriented attention. Regarding the phrase "Is it to perfect it?", it means that even if one enters (meditation) in order to perfect and ultimately complete all samadhis. Regarding the phrase "Is it to attain the fruit of a renunciate?", it means that even if one enters (meditation) in order to attain the fruit of a renunciate, such as stream-entry. Regarding the phrase "Is it to enter the ground?", it means that even if one enters (meditation) in order to gradually attain the ten grounds oneself. Regarding the phrase "Is it to attain distinction?", or, even if one enters (meditation) in order to attain the distinction of qualities such as the five supernormal knowledges oneself. The meaning of the phrase "For what does one enter?" is that even if one enters (meditation) in order to attain other qualities that do not belong to the above, such as strength and fearlessness, one should think of attaining these and meditate, this is called the mind of hope. The mind itself appears as the object, and apart from the mind, there is no other object. Regarding this statement, when the six minds were explained earlier, the objects of the six minds that were explained are also merely like the mind itself appearing as six kinds of objects. Apart from the mind, as the object to be focused on by the mind, there is nothing else separate from the mind. Regarding "Even if one knows it is only mind, it is okay, even if one does not know it, it is okay," etc., regarding the objects of these six kinds of minds, through the wisdom of thought, one understands that they are only mind. Even if one knows it is only mind, when meditating on these six kinds of minds, it is okay even if one does not know that these six kinds of minds are only mind. Or, one does not understand that it is only mind through the wisdom of thought, but through the wisdom of hearing, one understands that everything is only mind, and there are no other objects apart from the mind. In short, the mind itself is the object of the six kinds of minds.

The appearance like an illusion vanishes, and since it is not other than the mind, the six consciousnesses are also established as mind-only. Thus, the yogi meditates on the six consciousnesses, and thereby cultivates and attends to the eleven types of attention. Therefore, it is said, "Searching and analysis, constantly perform mental discrimination." Among these, the eleven types of attention are those with searching and analysis, etc. The eleven types of attention are explained in four verses. Among them, "Searching, constantly perform with the mind; analysis, constantly perform with the mind," are such statements. Among them, "Searching, perform with the mind" indicates the attention with both searching and analysis, which is the immediate state and the first dhyana. If asked, how does searching appear in searching? In the scriptures, when explaining the nature of searching, it is said: What is searching? Searching is the mind's establishment. Therefore, searching appears in searching. "Analysis, perform with the mind" indicates the attention that does not search but only analyzes, which is the intermediate dhyana and the second dhyana. If asked, how does analysis appear in analysis? In the scriptures, when explaining the nature of analysis, it is said: What is analysis? Analysis is the mind's establishment. Therefore, analysis appears in analysis. "Non-discriminating, of one taste, one should examine the attention." Among them, "Non-discriminating, of one taste" indicates the attention that neither searches nor analyzes, which is the third and fourth dhyanas. At that time, since one cultivates the inner one-taste nature, which is free from searching and analysis, the non-discriminating one-taste nature that is free from searching and analysis is synonymous with constantly attending to it. "Know the path of tranquility, therefore, dharma and name are summarized." Among them, the summary of names refers to the name summarizing the meaning and words of all dharmas. For example, the name "Prajnaparamita" summarizes the meaning and many words of Prajnaparamita. The word "and" indicates the mind that follows.
