If one causes fear and dread by means of beating, etc., then that means it is contradictory. If a Bodhisattva is loving towards sentient beings, here it refers to attachment, meaning that a Bodhisattva is loving, compassionate, and cherishing towards all sentient beings, and when benefiting sentient beings, it is considered attachment. The fault arising from that is cessation, meaning that the attachment of a Bodhisattva's compassion arising from love towards sentient beings will not become a downfall or fault, but is allowed. Why will it not become a fault? Because the attachment arising from love will become a cause for benefiting sentient beings and bringing happiness, so it will not be considered a fault. A Bodhisattva is loving towards sentient beings, pacifies suffering, gives benefit, and becomes happy for the sake of generating happiness, meaning that because a Bodhisattva is loving towards sentient beings, it contradicts the mind of anger; pacifies the suffering of sentient beings, so it contradicts the afflictions that are the cause of suffering; performs beneficial deeds, so it contradicts the arising of causal mind; generates happiness, so even seeing the form of a Bodhisattva and hearing the sound will become happy, then generating fear is contradictory. Because of these reasons, it contradicts the mind of suffering, etc., meaning that anger and establishing in afflictions, and the causes such as causal mind, will cause suffering to arise in sentient beings, so it is said to contradict the mind of anger, etc. There are five verses that distinguish practice, meaning that because it is in the context of explaining practice, therefore, for the practice of a Bodhisattva, how many in number and how many in kind, five verses are shown. Deeply entering into samsara is like a sick person taking medicine. It means that, for example, a sick person takes medicine in order to cure the disease, even if they think the medicine is bitter, spicy, and hot, etc., they still take it in order to cure the disease. Similarly, a Bodhisattva

For the sake of sentient beings, knowingly entering into samsara, although knowing that the faults of samsara are suffering and unbearable discomfort, one enters into samsara in order to ultimately attain Buddhahood, this is its meaning. To fully enter for sentient beings is like a doctor to a patient. Just as a compassionate and virtuous doctor approaches a patient in order to benefit the patient's illness, combining the root of the disease with medicine to treat it, so too, Bodhisattvas, in order to pacify the afflictions of those sentient beings who are sick with afflictions such as desire, combine each individual's capacity with the supreme Dharma medicine and bestow and teach it. To fully enter for oneself is like an untamed servant. For example, in order to tame an untamed and unruly servant, the master approaches him, using harsh methods such as whipping and punishment to discipline him. Similarly, Bodhisattvas, in order to subdue and pacify their own minds, which are controlled by afflictions and are untamed and stubborn, discipline and subdue them through proper attention. In this regard, it is like observing the example of taming a horse as stated in the "Holy Jewel Heap Sutra". To fully enter for desires is like a merchant to wealth. From here onwards, it shows how to accomplish the six perfections. For example, just as a merchant earns a lot of wealth with a small amount of goods in order to support his family, so too, Bodhisattvas, through the goods of the perfection of generosity, accomplish the qualities of the five desires and perfect enjoyment, and then completely bestow them upon sentient beings. This shows the perfection of generosity. To fully enter for actions is like using dye on cloth. For example, in order to make the dyed cloth adhere to the dye, the dirt of the cloth is removed through the actions of grasping and washing, similarly, Bodhisattvas also engage in actions such as not killing and not stealing in order to purify the three actions of body, speech, and mind. This shows the perfection of discipline.
