Regarding what is called "grasping," there is no self-nature of the imputed dharma and person. Why? Because all names, signs, terms, and conceptual designations are non-existent like a rabbit's horn. The absence of imputed self-nature is known by the samadhi of emptiness. Why? Because the samadhi of emptiness is the aspect of meditating on the absence of self in the imputed dharma and person, and on emptiness. Regarding what is called "without aspiration" and "without sign," the self-nature of the other-powered and thoroughly established are present. The presence of the other-powered and thoroughly established are known sequentially by the two samadhis of without aspiration and without sign. How is it known? The other-powered is unreal, possessing various kinds of suffering from pervasive conceptualization, and the faults of afflictions such as desire. Even if its self-nature exists, it is not a place of aspiration, therefore it is realized by the samadhi of without aspiration. The thoroughly established is self-nature existing, free from the conceptualization of the characteristics of speech, thought, and play. It cannot be said "it is like this," its sign is inconceivable, therefore it is known by the samadhi of without sign. Regarding what is called "these three samadhis are worldly," during the four stages of the stage of application, they are called worldly because of practice. In relation to the worldly and supramundane paths, they are established as regressive and non-regressive. For those who have not entered the stage of application, in relation to the worldly, they are called non-regressive. In relation to the supramundane path, they are called regressive. Regarding what is called "generating supramundane wisdom, therefore it is non-inverted," it is explained as abandoning regression. In the stage of application, these three samadhis are practiced, and through the cause of practicing these three, the first ground is attained, and supramundane wisdom is understood, becoming the cause of non-conceptual wisdom, therefore it is called non-inverted. Regarding what is called "because it is not supramundane, therefore it is unreal," it is explained as abandoning non-regression. The sam

Those three kinds of clinging also do not transform into transcendental wisdom, and because they are not of the nature of non-discrimination, they are not authentic. That is its meaning. Understanding the meaning, one should understand all dharmas as being like a raft. Regarding this statement, as mentioned earlier, understanding the two selflessnesses of person and phenomena through the wisdom of listening is called understanding the meaning. This understanding of meaning, as stated in the Noble Vajra Cutter Sutra, should understand all dharmas as being like a raft. For example, in order to be liberated from a river, one builds a raft, relies on boats and other rafts to cross the river, and then abandons the raft. Similarly, in order to understand the meaning of the Dharma, one listens to the holy Dharma in order to abandon afflictions, and thinking and so on are what should be done. After understanding the meaning, those should also be abandoned, because one comprehends this, one understands it as being like a raft. Up to this point, the understanding of meaning has been explained. In order to abandon joy arising from listening, it is through the wisdom of Dharma that one can speak. Regarding this statement, one should not be content with merely listening, but must contemplate how to understand the Dharma one has heard without error. Therefore, abandoning the clinging arising from listening, one generates respect for the wisdom of thinking, and entering into thought is called the wisdom of Dharma, that is its meaning. With the wisdom that goes separately, if one thoroughly understands the two in that way, in order to perfect that wisdom, one cultivates in accordance with the Dharma. Regarding this statement, "going separately" refers to separate ordinary beings. In the ordinary period of separate ordinary beings, relying on the wisdom of listening to understand the meaning, and relying on the wisdom of Dharma in the period of thinking, relying on the two, in order to make the wisdom of understanding the two selflessnesses of person and phenomena complete and pure, and to transform it into the characteristic of transcendental wisdom, entering into cultivation in the heat stage and so on of the stage of application, is to accord with the Dharma.
