The Tathagata Buddha Shakyamuni is of small merit, and the vessel world and the sentient world are also impure. Why? The vessel world is full of stones and thorns, and dangerous places. Sentient beings are also impure, being of the nature of the five degenerations. The Tathagata also has a short lifespan and a small body, and is thus disparaged and despised. Such contempt is contempt for the field of merit and wisdom, the supreme abode of all sentient beings, and is the cause of falling into the lower realms, and obstructs liberation and attainment of the good realms, therefore it is an obscuration. As an antidote to this obscuration, at that very time, at that very moment, he becomes a fully enlightened Buddha. Thus it is said. Thus it was taught, the Tathagata of the past who became greatly meritorious was also Shakyamuni Buddha, thinking thus, one will develop a mind of joy and satisfaction towards the Tathagata, and the mind of contempt will be reversed. Disparaging the Dharma will become an obscuration, as an antidote to this obscuration, one must make offerings to Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, in order to comprehend the meaning of the Great Vehicle. Thus it is said. Some sentient beings think, these Buddhist teachings, are practiced even by low-class people, Chandalas, sons of Chandalas, women and children, and shepherds, and everyone can understand them, so they are not special, but easy. Thus they disparage the Dharma. Disparaging that which is the medicine for all afflictions, that which shows the path to unsurpassed enlightenment, will become the cause of falling into the lower realms, and will obstruct liberation and attainment of the good realms, therefore it is called an obscuration. As an antidote to this obscuration, one must make offerings to Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, in order to comprehend the unsurpassed meaning of the Great Vehicle. Thus it is said. If one does not make offerings to Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, then even those of royal lineage and so on will not be able to realize the meaning of the Great Vehicle, but if one makes offerings to Tathagatas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, then one will be able to realize the meaning of the Great Vehicle, thus it is said.

Having spoken thus, this Dharma is realized through many difficulties, so thinking that it is not a place to be scorned, the mind of scorn recedes and a mind of joy arises. As an antidote to the obscuration of laziness, if one makes aspirations to be born in Sukhavati, one will be born there, and merely holding the name of the Tathagata Immaculate Moon will also lead to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. So it is said. Some lazy sentient beings, how could they do virtuous deeds such as reading scriptures and meditating? They don't even make aspirations, nor do they even utter the name of the Tathagata. Because it obstructs the generation of great roots of virtue, the attainment of liberation and higher realms, it is an obscuration. As an antidote to that, if one makes aspirations to be born in the realm of Sukhavati of the Buddha Amitabha, it is said that one will be born there. Furthermore, it is said that merely holding the name of the Tathagata Immaculate Moon will also lead to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Furthermore, it is said that if one recites this dharani, even if one has committed deeds such as the five heinous crimes, they will be purified. So it is said, and when it is said thus, lazy people will begin to make aspirations, hold the name of the Tathagata, and recite the dharanis. Through these means, they will accumulate roots of virtue and so on. If one abides in the roots of virtue, when will one attain Buddhahood? Or thinking thus, merely making aspirations and holding the name will lead to birth in a Buddha-field and the attainment of Buddhahood, and if one practices vast virtuous deeds through hearing and thinking and so on, one will undoubtedly attain Buddhahood, and thus one will also engage in hearing and thinking and so on. Therefore, this becomes an antidote to laziness. As an antidote to the obscuration of being satisfied with little, in some cases, the Bhagavan praises generosity and other virtuous deeds, and in some cases, he disparages them. Some sentient beings are satisfied with merely accumulating a little root of virtue, merely satisfied with generosity, and do not engage in vast virtuous deeds such as keeping precepts, hearing, and thinking. In order for them to accumulate vast roots of virtue, in some
