The statement "there is no dharma," etc., does not mean that everything is completely non-existent. Rather, it is said that "there is no" with reference to the imputed nature (parikalpita) that is conceived by childish beings as grasping at the apprehended and the apprehender. It does not mean that the dependent nature (paratantra) and the thoroughly established nature (parinispanna) in the realm of the noble ones do not exist. By properly attending to this, one will not be afraid of the Great Vehicle. This is the meaning. The statement "the Blessed One's intention is profound" means that all the Blessed One's teachings are profound and subtle, and it is very difficult to know and understand what is intended. How so? The Tathagata teaches the Dharma, knowing the thoughts, predispositions, and faculties of beings. In accordance with the minds of individual beings, he teaches some that "it exists," some that "it does not exist," and some that "it is neither existent nor non-existent." I cannot fathom from what intention these teachings are spoken, because it is not my realm. Therefore, one should properly attend to this, and even if one thinks about it, one will not be afraid. This is the meaning. The statement "if the wise properly investigate, they will not be afraid of the Dharma" means that wise people who possess intelligence, if they properly contemplate and speak, will not be afraid of the Dharma of the Great Vehicle. This is the meaning. The statement "the negation will only be made once" means that if the meaning of emptiness were not important, then the word of negation, "non-existent," should only be spoken a few times and then not spoken again. However, since the Blessed One continuously teaches it in all the sutras, there is no doubt that there is a very important meaning in teaching emptiness. This is the meaning. The statement "it is the realm of the wisdom of those who have long been engaged, therefore it is called a verse" means that when someone says, "this is good, this is bad," and "this is, this is not," those distinctions and discriminations, if one attains the wisdom of long engagement, then what was originally is and is not will become their realm. For those who have not attained the realm of the wisdom of long engagement, because all things have not become manifest, it is not permissible to definitively assert, "this is not the word of the Buddha." Regarding this, long

The wisdom of entering is the omniscient wisdom that manifests without hindrance or attachment, like an Emblic myrobalan fruit in the palm of one's hand, for all things that exist in the three times and ten directions. The saying, "Abiding in hearing, initially arising mindfulness," means that the method for obtaining omniscient wisdom is: first, rely on a virtuous spiritual friend and initially listen to the Mahayana Dharma, beginning with "virtue." Then, relying on that hearing, subsequently contemplate impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. From that contemplation, the characteristics of mindfulness in accordance with the Dharma, such as the heat of meditative absorption of faith, will arise. This is its meaning. From mindfulness in accordance with the Dharma, Wisdom of the true meaning will arise. This means that, like this, the meditative absorption practiced with faith, relying on the four aspects of its own nature in accordance with the Dharma, on the first ground of the path of seeing, with the transcendental true view, the characteristic of selflessness of phenomena and persons, proceeding in all realms of Dharma, the wisdom that manifestly becomes the object, that is, the non-conceptual wisdom, will arise. This is its meaning. The saying, "From this, Dharma will be attained," means that after obtaining non-conceptual wisdom on the first ground, from the second ground to the tenth ground, by meditating on that wisdom, all afflictive and cognitive obscurations will be abandoned. On the ground of Buddhahood, the fruit of having meditated on the ten grounds, that is, the body of liberation, will be attained. This is its meaning. The saying, "From this, intelligence will arise," means that after obtaining liberation in this way, subsequently, for liberation, the wisdom that knows liberation itself as it is will arise. What is the characteristic of that wisdom? It is like this: "I have done what had to be done, I have laid down the burden, I have practiced celibacy, I do not know anything other than this world," this is understanding. When that wisdom is realized by oneself, at that time, what should be taken and what should be abandoned, what is and what is not, will become manifest, and thus one will distinguish and determine, "This is, this is not."
