So, how many perfect letters and words are there? What is the general thought on this? Therefore, it is said, "The Sugata's voice is boundless, and the sixty branches are inconceivable." The voices of the Tathagatas are boundless. Although they are so boundless, how many are there if summarized? There are sixty. How are they boundless? Because each of those sixty branches produces inconceivable vocal tones, they are boundless. From which sutra do those sixty branches come? Therefore, it is said, "Whatever is taught by the Lord of Secrets," etc. The Lord of Secrets is the noble Vajrapani. What he teaches is the sutra he speaks, the Sutra of the Three Secrets. Among them, moistening is because the realm of sentient beings belongs to the root of virtue. For example, water is very moist, making trees, grass, herbs, and dense forests, etc., moist, causing those that have not yet grown to grow, and causing those that have grown to flourish and increase. Similarly, the Tathagata's speech can also cause the roots of virtue that have not yet grown in the minds of sentient beings to grow, and cause those that have grown to flourish and increase, so it is generally called moistening. Gentle is because one can feel happiness in this life. For example, when the body touches soft things like the heavenly cloth Kazali, silk, and silk floss, it can make the body's senses feel happy. Similarly, the Tathagata's speech is also gentle and soft, so when heard, or in this life, it can make the mind's senses feel happy, so it is called gentle. Because the meaning is good, it is pleasing. The Tathagata's speech explains the meaning of the two truths of sentient beings and non-self, as well as dependent origination and the Dharma of the path to enlightenment, etc., because the meaning is good, it is pleasing. Saying "mind" is because meaning can be known by the consciousness of the mind, but cannot be discerned by the consciousness of the ear, so "mind" is said. Because the letters are good, it is delightful. The Tathagata's speech is not the words of cowherds and shepherds, etc.

and words like idle talk are not spoken, but the words and letters of gods and saints are spoken, and because the letters are good, it is called delight of mind. Because it transcends the world and obtains the supreme fruit, it is called perfectly pure. Hearers and solitary Buddhas are transcendent, why? Because they have abandoned the obscurations of affliction. Although they are transcendent, they are not supreme, because they have not attained the non-conceptual wisdom that abandons the obscurations of knowledge. Bodhisattvas have abandoned all afflictions and obscurations of knowledge, and have attained non-conceptual wisdom, which is higher than that of hearers, so they are called supreme. After non-conceptual wisdom, pure worldly wisdom arises, and because speech arises from that pure worldly wisdom, it is called perfectly pure. Because it is free from the habits and predispositions of affliction, it is called immaculate. The seeds of the six afflictions, such as desire, are called the habits of affliction. The seeds of near afflictions are called predispositions. Because it is spoken after abandoning those defilements, it is called immaculate. For the sake of famous words and letters, it is called very clear. It does not speak of words and letters that are not famous in the world, but speaks of words and letters that are famous in the world, so it is called very clear. Because it has the merit of the power of wisdom that destroys the evil views of all heretics, it is called powerful. That speech has the merit of the power of wisdom that destroys and eliminates those with evil views who believe in the existence of self and sentient beings, so it is called powerful. If practiced, it will be liberated, so it is called delightful to hear. If one practices after hearing the words of the Tathagata, one will be liberated from the three realms, therefore it is called delightful to hear, meaning worthy of hearing. Because it is not destroyed by the refutations of all heretics, it is called indestructible. When the Tathagata teaches the Dharma, the opponents such as heretics cannot destroy the speech of the Tathagata.
