This is the meaning of "shown by the two." The statement "The Buddhas did not speak of the self-cognizant dharmas" refers to the fact that the dharmadhatu, non-conceptual wisdom, and the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, etc., are realized by the Tathagata's wisdom and are exhausted in the self-cognizance of wisdom. The dharma of self-cognizance cannot even be expressed in words and letters, so it cannot be shown to others. The Buddhas also did not speak of it because there is no meaning of such dharmas as Suchness in the spoken dharma, so speaking of dharma is meaningless. If the nature of dharma exists in language, and the nature of dharma can be expressed in language, then merely saying "fire" would result in the fault of burning one's mouth. The sutras also never say that Suchness can be spoken. The Noble Vajra Cutter Sutra also says, "I have not taken even a little dharma from the Tathagata Dipamkara." The Noble Inexhaustible Intelligence Sutra also says, "Suchness is beyond the realm of mind, what need is there to mention words and letters?" Acharya Matichitra said, "Suchness is not even the realm of consciousness, how can I reach it by expressing it in words?" This arises from reliance on the Blessed One. Therefore, since the ultimate truth cannot be expressed in words, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, place sentient beings in their own self-cognizant realms by speaking in accordance with the ultimate truth. Therefore, it is said, "By showing the dharma with wisdom, guide beings into the dharma." This means that the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, guide and place beings in their own dharma by teaching the dharma in a way that does not contradict the four kinds of reasoning, such as logic. Therefore, teaching the dharma is not meaningless. Alternatively, first teach the dharma with the reasoning of logic, then with the reasoning of contemplation and meditation, guide and place beings in the Dharmakaya and non-conceptual wisdom. Therefore, teaching the dharma is also not meaningless. Now, in order to explain how beings are placed in their own nature by logic and examples, it says, "Pure abandonment."

The common land will not be exhausted, the self-nature is peaceful as a container, the embodiment of compassion is like a snake, guiding all like saliva. Thus it is said. For example, a great snake called Azagar, plowing fields on its back, and rivers also flow, that snake flows saliva from its own mouth, flowing far away like a river. Deer, land, and cows, etc. on the mountains think it is water, so they go there to drink. The saliva is poisonous, seizing sentient beings, leading to death, and then guiding them into their own mouths. Similarly, the embodiment of compassion, the Blessed One Buddha, is like a snake, and the twelve categories of scriptures that arise from his mouth are like saliva. The twelve categories of scriptures, like saliva, guide sentient beings, placing them in their own peaceful container, actually placing them in the Dharmakaya and Nirvana. This is its meaning. The Dharmakaya is also called pure because it is free from afflictive obscurations and cognitive obscurations. Common with the Shravakas, it possesses qualities such as power and fearlessness, so it is called abandonment. Moreover, the Shravakas have abandoned the afflictive obscurations, so they are pure, but because they have not abandoned the cognitive obscurations, they are not abandonment. The Tathagatas have abandoned the afflictive obscurations, so they are pure. They have abandoned the cognitive obscurations, so they are abandonment. The Dharmakaya is possessed by all the Tathagatas, so it is called common. The Dharmakaya is permanent, and will not disappear or change until the end of Samsara, so it is called inexhaustible. Now, in order to explain how practice is not meaningless, it is said: Those who practice yoga will therefore not become meaningless. Thus it is said. Like this, after hearing the Dharma, thinking, and practicing the yoga of Shamatha and Vipassana, one will attain the Dharmakaya Nirvana, as shown. Therefore, those who practice yoga will also not become meaningless, this is its meaning. In order to explain how proclaiming will not become meaningless, it is said: Whatever the Sugata proclaims, therefore this will not become meaningless. Thus it is said. Like this, proclaiming the Dharma with reason, one's own Dharma leads to the Dharmakaya, therefore the Sugatas proclaim the twelve categories of scriptures.
