It is said that it is empty of its own nature. This means that the forms, sounds, etc., of the completely imputed are non-existent. To counteract the imputation of defamation, it is also said that emptiness is not either. The perfectly established, which is separate from the completely imputed dharma, is non-existent. If one thinks that it does not exist in all respects, that is the imputation of defamation. To counteract it, in the hundred thousand Prajñāpāramitā, etc., it is also said that it is non-existent. In reality, emptiness, which is separate from the grasper and the grasped, the nature of the perfectly established, is not non-existent in all respects. To counteract the imputation of clinging to one, it is said that the emptiness of form is not form. The dharma characteristic form and the dharma nature emptiness, the completely imputed dharma and the perfectly established, the two are of one nature. To counteract this imputation, in the hundred thousand Prajñāpāramitā it is said that the emptiness of form is not form, and form is not emptiness. In reality, the completely imputed form and the nature of the perfectly established are not one. Why? Because form is of a deluded nature, while the perfectly established is of an undeluded nature. To counteract different imputations, it is said that emptiness is not other than form, emptiness is form. If one thinks that form is in one place and emptiness is in another place, to counteract the imputation that form and emptiness are different, in the hundred thousand Prajñāpāramitā it is said that emptiness is not other than form, and form is not other than emptiness, whatever is form is emptiness, and emptiness is form. The meaning is that, apart from form, the emptiness of form does not exist in another place. To counteract the imputation of clinging to the nature of self, it is said that form is merely a name. If one thinks that the nature of form is obstructive, the nature of feeling is capable of experiencing, and the nature of earth is hard, etc.,

As an antidote, in the One Hundred Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā, the Buddha said, "Form is just a name." This means that all characteristics of form, such as hardness and wetness, are just names, symbols, and terms, and do not have inherent existence. In particular, to counteract conceptualization, the Buddha said, "Form is neither produced nor ceases, neither defiled nor purified." This means that thinking form has production, thinking form has cessation, thinking form is defiled, and thinking form is purified are all special conceptualizations. To counteract these conceptualizations, the One Hundred Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā says, "Form is neither produced nor ceases," etc., meaning that in ultimate truth, form does not undergo production, cessation, defilement, or purification. To counteract the clinging conceptualization that "names are as their meanings," the Buddha said, "Names are false." This means that names such as 'vase' and 'blanket' have inherent existence, and just as names have inherent existence, the objects they represent, such as vases and blankets, also exist. This clinging is the conceptualization of clinging to names as their meanings. To counteract this conceptualization, the One Hundred Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā says, "Names are false," meaning that the names given to vases, blankets, etc., are false, illusory, and do not have inherent existence. To counteract how meaning clings to names, the Buddha said, "Bodhisattvas do not observe all these names, and because they do not observe, they do not cling." This means that just as the meanings of things like vases and blankets have inherent existence, their names also have inherent existence. To counteract this clinging and the conceptualization of thinking they exist, the One Hundred Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā says, "Bodhisattvas do not observe all these names, and because they do not observe, they do not cling." In short, bodhisattvas see that the nature of phenomena exists, and therefore do not think that names have inherent existence.
