Offering possessions is offering with wealth. Performing prostrations and circumambulations, etc., is offering with respect. Giving is wealth, and respect is offering. Accomplishing the five from discipline to wisdom is offering. This is the third of rejoicing in the mind. To rely on a virtuous friend in order to seek the one who teaches the non-perverted pāramitās, wherein, non-perverted means the non-perverted generosity pāramitā up to the non-perverted wisdom pāramitā. Among them, some giving, although it is giving, has perversion, such as giving weapons to a butcher, giving wealth to a prostitute, and so on. Some wisdom, although it is wisdom, has perversion, such as the self and permanence, etc., spoken of by non-Buddhists. Therefore, in order to seek a virtuous friend who teaches non-perverted giving and non-perverted wisdom, going to the virtuous friend who teaches these, and performing service and respect such as prostrations and circumambulations, this is called reliance. This is the fourth of rejoicing in the mind. Cherishing loving-kindness in the mind refers to the four immeasurables, and a mind possessing the four immeasurables is called cherishing loving-kindness in the mind, this is its meaning. The power of giving and so on, and loving-kindness, wherein, loving-kindness is thinking that all sentient beings may have happiness, and not only thinking that bodhisattvas may have happiness, but also placing them in happiness. Therefore, the six pāramitās of giving and so on are what accomplish enjoyment and so on, so giving and so on should also be combined with the six pāramitās, and establishing the six pāramitās on the six pāramitās is loving-kindness towards sentient beings, this is its meaning. Towards those who possess miserliness and so on, arising loving-kindness, wherein, thinking that all sentient beings may be free from suffering, this is compassion. Miserliness and so on are the opposite of the six pāramitās, and are the cause of becoming poor and so on, therefore, towards those who possess miserliness and so on, a bodhisattva will generate compassion.
